Ordinarily (no lockdown!) I'd say take it yourself.

1) UPS offer a high value service https://www.ups.com/gb/en/shipping/services/value-...

2) Do the people you are sending it to have a recommended courier?

Get on a train & deliver it. It's the cheapest & most secure method.

I'd say take it yourself - Remember your mask & don't pick up any hitch-hikers

However prior to fuelling the car I'd ask the people you are sending it to - Do they have a recommended courier?

Given we are now in lockdown I withdraw my suggestion of getting on a train. Look at Securus for insurance that covers shipping via Royal Mail SD, amongst other carriers:

I used them recently to insure an Omega sent to Germany and no issues. Of course the watch didn't go missing so no idea how good Securus are if you have to actually make a claim but it gives you peace of mind.

If the person you are sending it to is reputable (and won't claim you sent them a brick) then why not use a regular courier such as DHL with appropriate insurance?

I normally describe the item as 'precision instrument' rather than 'Rolex Watch' or whatever. I've never had an item go missing yet.

Come to think of it, at work we ship around 600 DHL Express shipments every month and they have never lost an item as long as I can remember. Sometimes they can't be delivered or are uncollected but they always come back.
