I really like the new omega speedmaster and looking forward to trying it on. However I keep thinking the bezel should be ceramic especially on the sapphire Crystal model. I have always lusted after a Daytona but of the sapphire speedy had a ceramic bezel I would prefer the speedmaster and can’t think of reason I would pay twice as much for a Daytona. Is there any reason why the bezel isn’t ceramic?

Not ceramic due to keeping it's heritage purer? Or perhaps the bezel is a bit slimmer in metal and ceramic can't be made that thin? Haven't a clue, but...

Speedmaster is much more legible than a Daytona
Good luck finding a Daytona at twice the price

I'm with you OP. A ceramic bezel insert on the sapphire speedy would have been great. The hesalite can keep true with the metal insert, but why not modernise in the sapphire?
Like it or not, ceramic makes for scratch free bezels for life in most uses.

I baby my ceramic sub way less than most of my other watches, because its built like a tank and just shrugs everything off. I find bezel gouges pretty irritating but I know others like 'patina'.

It does seem to do a decent role as a bezel insert though. Not sure I'd want a ceramic case.

Ceramic shatters if it’s hit hard might be a problem in space, maybe the reason?

I thought that’s ceramic might not be suitable for space but then neither is sapphire glass. I don’t think a speedy has been certified for space for a long time. I think the sapphire model could have a ceramic bezel and be a high end model. The hesalite model could be a traditional model and cheaper model. I honestly think a sapphire speedmaster with ceramic bezel would be more desirable than a Daytona.

Yes I know the 321 and several other models have ceramic bezels. I don’t think the 321 is METAS certified. I would like the new Moonwatch Professional with new bracelet and METAS movement, sapphire Chrystal to have ceramic bezel. Usual problem with omega too many models lol.

It's currently near impossible to buy a 321 from Omega so the comparison with Daytona isn't far wrong!

Valid point that!

Don't worry, the next 'limited edition' Speedmaster will be along soon and you'll have another chance at getting the blend of items on your shopping list.

You're only going to be paying twice as much for a Daytona?

I admire your optimism.

Twice as much at retail. I know a Daytona is £20k. That emphasises my point. A Speedmaster "premium" with sapphire sandwich, METAS movement and ceramic bezel for quarter of current market value of Daytona would be something else.
