After reading the wrist check and incoming threads it seems to be the same old watches coming up time and again, if I've seen one Rolex Sub, Omega SM etc I've seen them all. I thought it might be a good idea to see some watches you like or own that are a bit off the radar, microbrands we might not of heard of, lesser known brands and watches that just don't seem to get the recognition they deserve.

I'll kick it of with these three:

Vulcain Cricket President - A watch with an interesting history

Marvin Malton 120

G Gerlash P24 - A Polish Microbrand (sorry for rubbish picture)

Over to you, lets see some different watches

This is my unknown watch... bought from Mr Harwood, the son of the man who invented the automatic movement.

Have a read through this thread on microbrands. smile

This is one of my real favourites, the Orion Sylph. A tiny brand from Philadelphia making nice watches in small numbers, I think 70 Sylphs were made.

That looks quite nice as a design, but to me it does look like the writing around the edge of the dial looks like they have a real chip about being an unknown.

Yes, I agree. Nothing I could do about that unfortunately.

It's a tiny bit of watch history - Harwood sadly died a few years ago and the shop no longer exists.

A few more you can't get in the High Street:

https://www.guinand-uhren.de/home-en.html

Guinand in Frankfurt, an old manufacturer re-started by Helmut Sinn making less than 1000 watches a year.

https://www.stowa.de/en/

Stowa, a fair few fans on here. Great watches with great customer service.

https://www.marloewatchcompany.com/

Marloe, affordable British watches.

That Vulcain is a lovely looking thing. For some reason I thought they were no longer in business. Nice to see otherwise.

I have posted this image here before but it is my only lesser known watch....

lick

That's a neat design & the yellow second hand is quite appealing to me.

I like the look of the anOrdain Model 1.. Bit pricey though & a really basic movement (So I've read). Made in Glasgow.

Had to use a stock Google image as I can never get a picture of mine to do justice to the blue hue of the glass and burgundy dial. hehe
The lume is also one of my favourites, very distinctive.

Another American small brand I like the look of is Monta:

Friend of mine bought one in black, which inspired me to buy mine.. But I've never seen or heard of Arbutus since. American brand using a Chinese movement with a Swiss spring apparently.. Keeps time quite well and hasn't skipped a beat.

It's a manual wind, but had been my daily up until recently when the strap broke and the Mrs bought me my aquaracer.

Great thread.

I am seriously considering one of these. Modest ETA movement, case nothing to write home about, but a hand-fired silver and enamel fume dial. Jewel-like.

By a Scottish company called AnOrdain.

Hah - I should have read the thread!

You have great taste, obviously. If you decide to buy one, PM me and let's see if they'll do us a deal for two of them...

They are about to move to batch production which might mean you will have to wait for one in the future.

It is probably a good time to buy one though wink

There is a lot of joy to be had from a beautifully made dial - I have often hankered after a Grand Seiko for this reason. Was also considering the Moser (Vanta) black dial, made from the darkest material known to man! It literally eats light to become so black. I like the simplicity that masks an interesting manufacture.
