Hi

My mum recently gifted me my late dad’s Omega Megasonic. It was working 6 years ago when he passed and has always worked only needing a new battery occasionally. I have replaced the battery and it’s humming away but no movement from the hands.

It’s not really worth that much but would like to get it working if possible. I don’t think even Omega service these anymore. Would anyone know of someone would could repair/service the watch ?

TIA

Joe at Anglesey Watches & Clocks fixed my Omega Deville Quartz watch for a very reasonable price.

Megasonic is a specialist movement. Joe may be able to do it, but it might need STS.

If it's humming, it could just be an alignment issue. The index spring, pawl and index wheel need to be set up very carefully. Or it could be that one of those parts is buggered!

It's not a worthless watch. There are some really stupid asking prices on ebay at the moment. It really depends on condition, but it should be somewhere in the mid hundreds.

IANAW.

I know not many people will work on them and spares are not that readily available. Think they were only made for a couple of years. It’s in quite good condition otherwise.

I will speak to Joe and STS to see what they can do 👍

This is supposedly the person to speak to with regards tuning fork omegas. I have a omega f300 seamaster 60m and I’ll be chatting to them when it needs some work.

Yes apparently Paul is good with electric watches. However, firstly he's permanently on holiday. Secondly if you do manage to find one of the odd days when he's not closed he does not appear to answer his email. I have tried three times with no response.

So would I recommend Paul? Well I'd recommend going elsewhere. Anyone who makes themselves that difficult to deal with isn't someone I want to give business to!

I didn’t know he was that awkward, I had been told he’s the guy to use when my watch needs work. I’ll dislike businesses too that you can’t get a reply from. Especially if you’re sending something that’s valuable (cash or sentimental) to them to work on. I’ll have to remember this thread when my watch needs work! Than you.

Struggling to find anyone, can’t get hold of Joe and STS won’t work on them. Paul at electric watches is on holiday for 4 months since the 24th March. Also I don’t think he works on them anymore as it has been crossed off on the list of watches he works on.

Any more suggestions would be appreciated

I did pop into a omega boutique wearing mine looking at a new seamaster. They seemed to think that they would still service it. So that may be an option, but obviously not the cheapest!

I don't think the person in the Omega boutique had any idea what they were looking at!

Apparently the only way of reaching Joe these days is by telephone.

Went to a Omega Boutique today. First salesperson I spoke to didn’t really know anything about the watch but thought they could service/repair it. This was until another salesperson appeared who did know what the watch was and said the only chance would be to send it to Switzerland for them to take a look.

Might just let them take a look. They said if I wasn’t happy with the cost of repair they would just send it back. Got nothing to lose really.

Make contact directly.
Might be work giving my watchmaker a call (not mine personally, just the guy I use.). I know he owns a couple of hummers. I doubt he'd be able to get spares. Cephas Mckeough in Southampton.

Thanks, I did give the service centre a call and they said they would take a look and see what they can do. Will give your guy a call during the week.
