Buying an old friend back
Discussion
Well not the exact watch but one like it.
In 2004 I purchased a speedmaster reduced with the black face. I think I paid 500 quid for it or so. I wore it for a couple of years really enjoyed it, and then sold it to my mate for what it cost me. He still owns it now. A year or so ago it started playing up and he had to spend 600 quid getting it repaired or serviced.
I've been kind of wanting a smaller omega chronograph for a couple of years but the right deal never came up.
Today on ebay I saw a boxed reduced , in very nice condition, just had a full service in Jan this year, up for 1600 quid. A few very pleasant emails exchanged with the seller, who wants to sell it to buy a professional and a deal is done at 1.5k.
I don't think that's bad really considering the service in January must have cost him 500 or so? I think he mentioned it was up for 2.1k with no interest and he just wanted rid of it.
I know its not the moon watch and a know its a bit smaller and compromised but I'm still chuffed to be getting an old friend back!

Nice.
The Reduced is such good value, still now.
The problem I have with mine is I haven’t worn much else since I got it
It’s so versatile with the bracelet, brown leather or nato.
Although I do find the bracelet a bit uncomfortable as it pulls the hairs on my wrist, which no other watch does.

I love these and as I have a comically small wrist it's the one I would choose. I have been looking recently and they all seem around £2k so it's re assuring to see them for less as I would be buying it to wear daily on a rubber or leather strap!
Lovely pics above, keep them coming, such a good looking watch!

What i would say is if you do buy one, beware the cheapest ones out there, unless its had a service. They aren't the cheapest watches to service, and I get the impression some people buy them wear them for a few years, then when the watch throws a wobbly and the owner finds out its going to be 600 quid for a service, they punt it on, via ebay. Its probably worth paying slightly more for one with a service history, or dealer backup at least, unless you get lucky and find one as I did for 1.5k which had had a very recent service. Its a pleasure to just listen to it actually, it purrs away like a little sewing machine mechanism.

Thanks for the tips! I am surprised by the £600 service tbh presume that's with omega? Its a pleasure to just listen to it actually, it purrs away like a little sewing machine mechanism.
Wont be buying anytime soon unfortunately! Maybe this time next year if all goes to plan!

The modular chronographs in the reduced models are all expensive to service. That’s one of the reasons I went with a full size, although not a moonwatch as it didn’t fit my other requirements. Wont be buying anytime soon unfortunately! Maybe this time next year if all goes to plan!
