Well, as you’re not that into watches and want something that doesn’t need servicing I can give you a few options under budget!
Longines Conquest Quartz
Bulova Lunar Pilot
Victorinox INOX Quartz
Rotary Henly GMT
Citizen BM8470-11EE
For that budget (new) you’re looking at top tier quartz watches from mid to upper mid brands, or entry level (ish) automatics from the same.
Obviously lots of exceptions to that statement too.
Have a look at those five and get back if any float your stoat. That’ll give us a starting point.

Just buy what you like, I was in a similar situation many years ago and ended up with a Tag, bought it on looks alone and haven’t regretted it one bit.
ETA Don’t be afraid to go down the slightly used route, you’ll get much better value and in many cases the watch may only have been worn once or twice if at all.

I was very impressed with my Certina, Sadly I had other Diver style watches so moved it on
Very good quality for the price & with a great movement

For something robust but not a steel diver style watch
Victorinox Swiss, they do cheaper Quartz movement watches but you can pick up the Automatic for within budget

Of course you could go a bit more Avant Garde with an Alexander Shorokhoff

I can also suggest a look at Certina - I have just bought an Action Diver Automatic for £603 (10% discount online).
They also have other styles of watches which are good value.
Swiss made, part of the Swatch group that includes Longines, Omega etc.
The other one to look at is a Tissot -

I have a few in that price range:
Stowa Flieger Classic 40 - Automatic movement, No Logo, No Date. Available new for <£1000:

Yema Superman Heritage - Automatic movement. Available new for < £1000:

Certina DS-1 Powermatic - Automatic movement. Available new for < £800:

Seiko Samurai - Automatic movement. Available new for < £500:

Alpina Alpiner 4 - Automatic movement. RRP around £1200, but bought from an AD for £1,000 without too much negotiation required:

Sort of stating the obvious but it really does depend what kind of style you are after, whether mechanical or quartz movement matters to you and whether the brand's heritage / reputation matters to you.
There are also lots of interesting microbrands around producing watches in your price range - there's a thread on here somewhere. Good luck with your search.

Not knowing a lot about watches, I'd like some recommendations in the range of £600 to £1k. Nothing too large on the wrist and something that simply 'looks nice' or maybe is even a bit different. Smart or smart casual is fine and something that won't require lots of servicing.
You've described the Junghans Max Bill quartz.RockyBalboa said:
Well, after much deliberation, I liked the look of something a bit 'different' and went for a Hamilton Ventura Open Heart and I love it.
Just one thing, how do adjust the leather strap with clasp as it seems to be sized for the Hulk at the mo?

2:12 here covers it I think?
Different watch but it’s called a deployment clasp and the bit on the end with the holes in the strap can open and move to loosen or tighten the strap.

Nice choice, I've been hanging my nose over a Ventura for the last year.Just one thing, how do adjust the leather strap with clasp as it seems to be sized for the Hulk at the mo?
Rather than starting a new thread... I also fancy something in this budget and quite like the look of a Christopher Ward C63 Sealander GMT.
I read quite a few comments on here about regular discounts... is that still a thing or was it just a running joke on the internet? I'm not in a rush so happy to wait if there might be a discount around the corner.
Thanks,
