£600-800 budget for an automatic watch
Discussion
I would like to purchase a watch for my step-son's confirmation gift. He wants a TAG-H but i think that is too much to spend and i wondered what the collective here thought might be my best option, Seiko maybe ?
I have a couple of nice watches (PP) but i am not expert at this price point, or any frankly. Would like to give him something that he'll treasure rather than dis guard.
thanks

The clue is in your question.I have a couple of nice watches (PP) but i am not expert at this price point, or any frankly. Would like to give him something that he'll treasure rather than dis guard.

Get him a TH. If that's what he wants giving him any Seiko isn't really going to cut it.
The outlet place in Bicester is probably a good place to start.
Have a look on chrono 24
Lots of independent dealers on there and good prices. Normally you can get the watch couriered and receive in 1/2 days.
Tags drop a fair bit from the new price so 2nd hand the way to go IMO. You can filter on condition so '2nd hand' can be 'as new'.

I'd recommend a Tag if that's what he's after to be honest.. Slightly over budget new, but you can get them cheaper.
The quartz Formula 1 models start at about £1150 RRP at the places like Goldsmiths, Ernest Jones etc. You can quite often get ~10% discounts at these places through employer benefit schemes and the like. Our place had 15% off at EJ for a limited time a couple years ago.
Alternatively, there's a few new ones for sale on Chrono24 for just under £1k, so effectively already discounted. This is the results for new and located in the UK:
