If it is of interest to anyone, Christopher Ward have a sale on with 25% off selected models, which I thought was pretty generous:

My pick would be this, which looks jolly nice and is now a very reasonable £555:

I remember CW when I used to frequent here more often around 10 years back .... weren’t they £200 all day long ? I get they’ve built a brand now and likely massively improved quality, but they’re strong money.

I think they are decent value when you consider they are a genuine 'made in Switzerland' watch with a 60 month warranty. They even now offer their own in-house movement.

Their range of Automatic watches starts at £550, and I wouldn't say that was strong money for as you say, a quality automatic Swiss made watch.

Wouldn't touch their products with a barge-pole.

In my experience their customer service is woeful.

I really rate my C60 and keep looking at the Sapphire model - maybe in the new year sale smile

I think they're excellent value and I genuinely couldn't fault my interactions with the sales and service team.

I have bought 23 of their watches over the years - have 8 still
never once had an issue with customer service - in fact some of the best of a company I have dealt with...

sound as though you might have been unlucky?

I've not seen one in the metal, but have been increasingly interested in buying one - e.g. the C63 Sealander looks really nice. The price looks very reasonable to me, particularly when you consider the regular discounts that they advertise. It also occurs to me that they are not going to be the sort of watch that you are likely to sell or trade in with a dealer, so as long as you are happy with the purchase price - all is good!

Does anyone have any experience of comparing a CW to an Oris? I've always thought that Oris were very undervalued, and therefore offer excellent VFM, and generally they only cost a little more than a CW.

I tried the new Oris Aquis range on last week and for the money they are stunning, especially the green bezel. I have noticed Oris prices creeping up but they pop into the sales quite regularly and I think on their price point there's very little to compare.

Sent my watch back for "service and battery replacement"

Watch came back and they hadn't cleaned it. Which, perhaps naively, I thought a service (of a Quartz watch) might include cleaning. Called them out, sent it back, it came back the same. Cost was half the price of the watch when new. smash

Absolute shower. Watch now sits in a drawer. laugh

It’s really not difficult to clean a watch and only takes a few minutes.

Why not do it yourself and wear it? A quartz CW generally looks ok.

Just give it a wash with soap and water, no need for this drama.

No, it isn't difficult to clean a watch and I often did. It's also not drama. It's no different to putting your car in for a service and a clean and they do half of what they say they will do. Christ, servicing a car small hatchback isn't much more expensive than what the CW watch service costs! £97.95!!!

If I pay a company to change a battery and service a watch and they don't service it or clean it in an ultrasonic bath then I might as well have just changed the battery myself. Which I now do with my other watches.

You pay for a service and expect your purchase to be treated well by the original supplier. I liked their watches and the brand but after that episode they won't get my trade again.

The below image is after they had "apparently" cleaned the watch in and ultrasonic bath twice, once on the first service and once after they had accepted that it wasn't good enough and I sent it back for a second time.

If cleaning was part of the advertised service then it should be done.

This.

If cleaning was advertised as forming part of a service, then it should have been done.

It it wasn’t clearly listed as being part of a service then I wouldn’t expect it.

How long ago was this?

I’m probably the wrong person to ask about this though, as I just scoff at manufacturer servicing no matter what it is, and cheerfully use independents at half the price for watches, cars, motorbikes, appliances and everything else you can think of.

Fair enough, it does sound as if you’ve been shoddily dealt with here. It’s very odd to hear this though as they have a really good reputation for customer service. I wonder what happened in this case?
