Peter Hook on stage the other day, wearing a distinctive looking watch. I've seen something similar before but I can't place it, can anyone identify it? TYVMIA.

JD is my favourite band, I've seen him live about 6 times in last few years, I was supposed to be seeing him in 2 weeks in Manchester but its been cancelled. The weekend before I've got New Order at Heaton Park.

I wanted one of the Hacienda inspired ones but then saw the price, think 51 were made and all sold out.

Yeah, I noticed that.

Mine too, haven't seen them that many times though. My wife's cousin is a friend of Tom Chapman so I got invited to a gig as a guest a few years ago and had a chat with the band. Most of them anyway, Bernard was deep in conversation and I didn't want to interrupt and experience his legendary grumpiness. I was careful not to mention the times I'd seen Peter Hook and the Light while talking to Tom. No Love Lost indeed.

Have you seen the Eastwood Hooky model? A copy of his Shergold 6. Four strings is quite enough for me on a bass.

I tried one on while in Edinburgh on holiday last month.

For me, Compared to the Steve McQueen version it was far to busy on the wrist and looked to over the top.

I liked the all black Bell&Ross as well but family thought it was to childrens toy / cereal give-a-way! Philistines!!!

Was offered a discount too.

Read both his and Bernard's autobiographies and then decide how cool.

Completely conflicting recall of the same events.

For the record - Hook is the better writer, very entertaining read.

They do agree they were being paid £100 a week even after 4 successful albums.

Slight thread drift, but since I worked out how to properly set up our (cheap) bass guitars (my 15 year old plays too) they play and sound so fantastic that I have no desire any more to get an expensive one.

Ibanez short scale
Ibanez 6 string (both budget)
1991 Hohner B Bass

Maybe I’m missing out but my ears can’t really tell much of a difference.

Setup is everything. I set up some guitars and basses belonging to my sons school early in lockdown, it’s very satisfying marking something unplayable, playable!

Steady, he might have better ghost writers smile Andrew Holmes, for one.

My kid’s school has a very nice Fender P-Bass, which he plays (he’s the only competent bassist) and he would quite like one I think, but I’m trying to steer him towards a Hohner PJ bass for his next instrument. I want my B Bass back!

Apologies again for the thread drift.

Peter Hook and New Order are both off-the-scale cool. The three coolest bass players of all time are Hooky, Steve Harris, and Geddy Lee. Only two of them play in cool bands, though.

By way of contrast, IMHO, the TaG Monaco, in all its forms, is irredeemably naff, being the quintessential 90's bankers' watch and/or wristwear of choice of
corpulent Steve McQueen fanboys. Plus, square watch. naff.

Discuss.

My son has a couple of Ibanez basses, a basic Soundgear 4-string with tapewounds and a very nice active 5-string. They sound great, I often pick up the 4-string because the tapewounds are so fun to play.

Can't beat a P. I've got a mid-90s Mexican P with flats, it thumps. Also got a Squier fretless Jazz which is very fun and better made than you'd expect for the price. Dont apologise for the thread drift, I'm much more interested in basses than watches, although I'm expecting to be told off for being off-topic soon smile

Yes, I've read Bernard's and all Hooky's books. Seems like a lot of the rift was down to poor communication via the band management.

Well that does it, I'm not going to drop £5.5k on one now.
