After two years without a holiday, I finally snapped and booked a short break at the start of November. Now, having had my arm twisted into buying new luggage etc by the wife my thoughts have turned to what I'm going to put in said luggage and, of course, watches are an essential item to take on hols!

That said, I now have a problem...which watches to take with me? I've spent far too much time over the last 18 months acquiring timepieces and whilst only having 5 slots available in my travel cases, I appear to have a glut of options.

Perhaps, for a laugh, you folks could help me decide which watch deserves a break? hehe

Let's start with box number 1 eh?

I am sat in the airport as we speak wearing an Omega on my left and an Apple Watch on my right. Might look like a tit but it’s the easiest way to transport them and I can pretend I’m Harry Metcalfe (or Fidel Castro although he wore two Rolexs)

Since buying the Apple Watch it has become my everyday watch AMD strangely I don’t mind if it takes a knock. But, I’m going to another country for holiday and want to be disconnected. The Apple Watch will be mostly set aside and I will go back to my trusty omega.

Forgot to list my choice. Tudor but on stainless strap/bracelet. Much more versatile when you don’t have to worry about the leather. Leather is good for when you are at home because you don’t need to plan the next week activities.

This used to be my do everything watch until I bought the Apple Watch. It’s still much more rugged and would not have taken scratches that I have on my Apple Watch.

Please excuse the blue fluff. My daughter tied it on because she misses me already. Please also excuse the obvious ginger. That’s genetic.

I was thinking more of taking a selection... something along the lines of:

- Travelling watch
- Daytime watch
- Activities watch

Aaaand, finally

- Evening watch

I reckon that I can cover all except evening with GMTs, by which time I doubt I shall care what time it is at home or what day it is hehe

my initial thoughts too, ticks several boxes
- Waterproof for the beach/sea/pool, bracelet - not leather for the beach sea pool
- smart and rugged
-not 'look at me' nick me

alternatively blue seiko for the same reasons, but assuming the longines is more accurate.

I love my Hydroconquests, but I'd probably opt for the Willard.

Right. Decision made...

Travel/Evening watch - Tudor BB GMT

Daytime Watch - Seiko Sportura Kinetic GMT (needs wearing as the capacitor is a bit low)

Activity Watch - Arnie

Evening Watch - Seiko Presage "Cocktail time"

I make that 4 (was going to go for 5 but you never know what I may pick up in duty free / whilst there wink )

Thanks to those of you that seem worried about my safety (and that of my watches) but I'm doubtful as to whether I run much chance of getting mugged in Abu Dhabi hehe

All excellent choices.

I would have just taken the Tudor GMT on a NATO strap.

I’d take the Tudor GMT for most things and the Arnie for anything seriously adventurous

Likewise, I have a white G-SHOCK square that is set manually set so I don't have to get it to pick up a local signal.

I don't want to risk any of my decent watches with sea water etc.

If you want reliability / toughness and accurate timekeeping, take the Seiko Kinetic. I once managed to run over my last divers kinetic with the car and there were no problems at all.
