I have an Omega Speedmaster, approx 15 years old. It has stopped working completely.
I took it into one of the omega dealers where they said it would be £500 for a full service repair. The watch would go off to omega apparently.
I was pretty shocked at the cost and said I’d have a think.
Does this sound about right?

Speedmaster is a lovely watch and they'll look after it.

I just wasn’t up to date with the cost of a service and was a bit taken back, especially as I went in mentally thinking it would be in the £250 area.
I’m sure any repair or service would be comprehensive going back to omega. Plus it’s pointless having a watch I always enjoyed wearing sat there not working.
(The new Chopard Mille Miligia GTS in blue/rose gold also caught my eye. Very nice)

Probably!Too be honest, servicing is something I have neglected on all my watches. There’s another 2 in particular I will have to factor in at some point soon.
I was just out the loop on what it might cost, hence being a bit surprised. But I’m happier after the good advice here and reassured it simply wasn’t this particular shop being ambitious with the pricing.
While it’s expensive, the servicing cost is around what I’d expect for Omega. But as your watch has stopped working after fifteen years without a service, you might need to brace yourself (more money!) if any parts are needed.

I just paid £600 for a Seamaster service and replacement glass. I took it to an a authorised dealer and I thought they would send it to Omega but they did it themselves. I don’t think they did it as well so next time I’ll take it to an Omega boutique. Watch was only £1k in 2001 so a £600 service did raise an eyebrow!

It's the right price.I don't bother servicing any of my watches as the cost of a service and the cost of a repair are generally pretty similar. The cost for both covers completely disassembling the watch, cleaning every part, reassembling and lubrications.
It's worth telling Omega what you don't want in terms of refurbishing. If you don't tell them they might decide to fit new hands or any number of cosmetic items. I prefer, for example, not to have my cases polished - some like it. If you leave it to Omega it will come back looking like new - you might want that.

Cheers, Dilemma I have is that Breitling want £600 all in for full breakdown and polish and Christian wants £330 plus parts which I don't know what they will amount too and ovs it doesn't get a polish.In theory it could end up the same kind of price without the polish which it could do with.
Yeh that is a little bit of a dilema, my dads Rolex cost me £250 all in. Was really pleased with the service and the pictures.
Especially as Rolex wanted nearly £3,000, they wanted to replaced bracelet (most of the cost), crystal, crown.
Christian replied and said the only chip in the crystal was a very small one on the outside, crown worked fine.

Is the movement an ETA 7750? If so there's no way it'll rack up a parts bill to worry about. Reverser, rotor bearing & a new mainspring/barrel is likely all it needs.
The only other common faults are the date change wheel, intermediate ratchet wheel and sometimes the cannon pinion driver. But even if they all need replaced it won't cost a whole lot.
No idea about the B2 movement though.
