Hi

I am flying over to Paris for the rugby on Friday this week. I have bought a few new watches over here recently and want to lay my hands on a Milgaus.

Question - since Brexit can I buy VAT free in France and bring it back to the UK? WoS in T5 say I can't buy duty-free from them so that's out, any ideas on Paris?

Thanks

In the very very remote chance you find a Milgauss in Paris - I suggest not wasting your time, you get a VAT refund, but when you declare said watch at Customs back in UK you will pay 20% duty. If you are tempted not to declare be aware that the French customs people that stamp your tax rebate form may well tell the UK customs people

I believe you can buy duty free over in Paris but would then be liable to pay the appropriate taxes on arrival back in the U.K.

I stand to be corrected though by someone more knowledgeable

You should be able to claim the French vat back by some kind of mechanism.

In Portugal you pay the VAT upfront and then show the watch and receipt to customs when you leave the country and 30 days later the vat refund hits your nominated account.

It goes without saying that it's your responsibility to declare the watch at UK customs who will say thank you in the form of a 20% bill. There is no excise to pay on watches the last time I checked.

Some people would advocate just sticking it on your wrist, wear a long sleeve top and like Prince Andrew lose the ability to sweat as you walk through....

I was in Paris a few weeks ago and had a look in a couple of Rolex stores on Place Vendome. It seemed to be the same as here. A few display models of SS sports models but if you are after a 28mm DateJust studded with diamonds then there were several available.

Fair play, if I was on a rugby trip to Paris I’d be lucky to remember my own name much less go Rolex shopping…

Enjoy the weekend….

Ok, thanks chaps, I have called a few dealers and they don't seem to have much other than €55,000 diamond-encrusted Datejusts that aren't really my thing.....even if I had the dosh!

i figured I would buy it before the game rather than making an expensive mistake!

I was in the 3 story mega store in Dubai mall on Friday, and it only had 3 datejusts (in vary levels of diamonds) in stock
