Can't help with the craftsman but one thing I can tell you, it won't be made in 24ct. It's way too soft.

Does he want a 'Coat of Arms' (Armorial Bearings) ring or a ring with the family 'Crest'? There's a difference. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coat_of_arms. The armorial bearings of the Incorporated Institution of Gas Engineers were granted by the College of Arms on 14th May 1930 but I'm not sure I'd want that on a ring. Only the College of Arms created and registered coat of arms count as official, although nothing precludes someone making one up I suppose.

That 'Coat of Arms' looks like something you can buy online that has little or no historical significance other than possibly relating to the surname Hill somewhere along the way. There's no family motto? In addition Coat of Arms rings seem a modern day invention given that the 'Crest' (on top of the helm) is usually carved (in reverse) into signet rings when the ancient practice of wax sealing documents was commonplace. Fairbairn's book of crests is the definitive guide.

I'm sure a goldsmith will chime in that any deep engraved signet ring needs to be from a 'die stamped' ring where the gold is compressed to make it harder and less likely to wear down and comes at a cost and only a few (some mentioned above) offer this level of service.

I used to enjoy Eddie's thread 'unusual job on the bench today' - some great work shown on there. Doesn't seem to have been updated for a while, but I can see he's still posting in other threads from time to time so hopefully he's OK.
