‘68 Rolex Explorer service - southwest
Discussion
I need to get my 1968 Rolex Explorer serviced in Wiltshire / Somerset area - has anyone got any experience of Wiltshire Watches? https://wiltshirewatches.co.uk/servicing-%26-repai...

There’s nothing inherently wrong but it’s not keeping good time (actually that’s an oxymoron…). It’s been more than ten years since it was serviced and could do with a clean up too. Who’s the Bath place please?

Thanks for the suggestions. The only thing is with both the above which are Rolex accredited places, they replace anything worn and the watch comes back looking new. It’s 55 years’ old with a bit of patina - that would disappear if it’s done to Rolex spec.
Hi, Watchworks is my stepfathers place, I double checked for you this morning as this didn’t sound right. Watchworks do have permission to leave cosmetic patina:Watchworks said:
Refurbishment at Watchworks
At Watchworks we have permission from Rolex to leave cosmetic only wear to a watch if the customer requests this. Some older watches are best left unpolished if it would devalue the watch. Some customers prefer the patina that develops when a watch is worn as it ‘tells the story’ of the watch. A customer may want it left for sentimental reasons too and we are mindful that watches can hold a lot of emotional attachment to the owner as it may have been given as a special gift or inherited from a loved one. As long as damage is cosmetic only and will not interfere with the running of the watch, we can leave it. All watches are cleaned in our ultra sonic cleaning machine but the polish is optional.
Our prices include polishing and often the cost is slightly less if refurbishment is not required as this is less work for the watchmaker.
Rocco loves an Explorer and whilst his polishing is astounding I’m sure he’d be delighted to work sympathetically on it for you. My suggestion was to ask Mallory’s for a recommendation of a watchmaker, not do take it to them. They’ve been around for a long time - I’m sure they have good contacts.
£900 doesn’t sound awful to me.
