What 2021 watch….
Discussion
Thanks to Mark for pointing out the typo in my original thread title.
Anyway…. My son was born last year, and I’m looking for a watch to gift him in his 18/21st birthday. Whilst I appreciate a nice watch as the next man I’m not ‘in’ to them so speak… so where would your money go?
I’d say my budget is up to £2000, but if I was super confident it would gain in value, then I’m happy to pay between the 5-10k mark.
This is mainly spurred on by seeing how much watches cost from my year of birth, because ouch.

A 2021 Tudor FXD would be cool, I have no idea what they are trading for though. They have the year on the case back, 2021 was the first year of production and it wasn't a full year.
On the other end of the price scale could be something like a Studio Underd0g from 2021, as they also launched last year and it feels of the moment.
Another idea is put the 2k in something like a vanguard fund and buy something together in 18 years, which might be more meaningful than a watch he might not even like.

I did exactly the same the year my boys were born! My eldest was born in 2016 so i was lucky enough to get an Omega Speedmaster mkII professional olympic Rio edition 1 of 2016 for him.
Given the 2020 tokyo olympics took place in 2021 cos CoVID it might be a nice touch if you can get one of those and a good talking point?
My youngest was 2018 so picked up one of the last flat dial seamasters before they went back to wave dials. So maybe research any watches that ceased production or design changed last year?
Value wise, olympic omegas are a bit hit and miss and some are a bit tacky but i love the rio and if chrono24 is to be believed it's increased 45% in 5 years.
Its just so bloody hard not to peal the stickers and wear it all the time...

I think the only issue with doing this is that it’s hard to say what’s going to appeal to your son in 18 years. Fashions also change.
Something like a Speedmaster is fairly timeless, despite the limited editions, although you’ll be spending a lot more than £2k.
If you like Tudor I’d go for a Black Bay 58. Pretty timeless design and not too much over your starting budget.
