Hi

My partner has asked me to look at getting her a white watch for her 50th.

She likes the one worn by Fiona Bruce which I think is a Chanel J12 watch but looking at that is bloody expensive for a quartz watch.

Does anyone know of a decent white womens watch that is similar to the pic but auto. Budget up to £3k

Cheers

Have a look on Chrono24 for a used J12 if that’s what she really wants.

TAG F1 white ceramic is another option. Bonus points for diamond dial/bezel.

As much as it pains you, ladies often don’t appreciate auto vs quartz.

you can also get a J12 in auto depending on size. Retail will be more than £3k but you may find a used one for under.

Here is some options in a ladies size:

Pretty sure you can get the white Santos for that kind of money, not a current model though.

Not just me then biggrin

I bought my missus a Longines Conquest auto for Xmas; it really is a lovely looking thing, but I should have saved myself the difference and gone quartz, since I'm constantly resetting it. She won't do it herself of course, 'because reasons' (see also changing batteries in anything, changing light bulbs, booking taxis, etc). And admittedly it is a little fiddly on such a small watch face.

Similar - I bought my wife a HydroConquest, but caved at the last minute and chose the quartz.

I put the money I'd saved towards the auto version for myself a little later biggrin

My wife’s Lady Date has a lovely Rolex auto mechanism inside a tiny watch.

If it’s worn at all (who needs to be on time anywhere?) it is invariably set wrong.

Go quartz one the one she wants….

Agreed.

When it comes to ladies watches, there is nothing to be gained by purchasing an Auto. Always buy the Quartz, if available.

I'm generalising, but all ladies care about is that it is ticking and shows the right time when they come to wear it. My wife has a Datejust and it is a pain in the arse at times because she only wears it maybe 1 or 2 days a week depending on what she is doing, and therefore it always needed set. I bought her a watch winder which has helped a lot, but even then she will sometimes complain that her watch is wrong by 5 minutes or 10 minutes, and ask me to set it.

Granted, it probably needs a service but none of this would be an issue if she had a quartz watch.

My wife always wanted a white watch and the for years the front runner was a Chanel J12 as well. Eventually I bought a pre-owned from a local jeweller but as soon as she tried it on she hated it. Fortunately it came with a 10 day return policy so I took it back and the search for a white watch continued.

Then by chance she saw one of these in a Breitling Boutique when we were away on holiday 3 years ago and snapped it up. It's now her default holiday watch as she can wear it in the pool on the beach without fear and apparently it's good enough for the evening as well so win win. At the moment they retail at £2840 but I would think you could do a deal.

Thanks all

A quartz does make more sense (apart from I’ll get ‘my watch isn’t working and hasn’t been for ages’ statement at some point!!

I’ve seen the Breitling mentioned a couple of times and really like it, plus, and I know this sounds a bit snobby but it’s a watch maker and not a fashion house.

However, if it’s the Chanel she likes then that’s what I’ll end up getting her

Thanks all for your replies

The Chanel J12 is a very good watch google some reviews easily as good as any other mainstream swiss watch, the J12 3125 has a Audemars Piguet movement in it as an example and is very sort after.

It's not being snobby more a lack of knowledge as the supplier base for their watches is very good, Chanel also own part of FP Journe.

Rado? I got Mrs M a lovely white ceramic with diamond markers in lieu of a J12 , it's discontinued now but there may be something similar.

Fiona Bruce has a lot to answer for!

Go on, post a pic.

I like a Rado. Lots of sniffs from the 'horological' purists, but as wrist candy they have a distinct, classy look.

Another option. RRP under 2k but I'm pretty sure you can get a good discount
