Both have now been reduced in price to 350 and although I love my Garmin Instinct I fancy something new.

Any experiences and which would you lean towards?

Let’s go to the master ..

Let’s just get this out of the way upfront: There’s precisely one reason – and ONLY one reason to buy the Garmin Enduro: You want really long battery life, and are OK with that at the expense of any other feature. Be it GPS battery life or daily watch use battery life, there’s no Garmin watch that goes as long as the Enduro. And Garmin is betting that you’ll pay extra for that feature over and above a normal base Garmin Fenix 6 unit.

I've got a Fenix 6S Sapphire and I really like it - it does pretty much everything you would want from a fitness tracking watch. So much so that I really can't justify upgrading to an Epix 2 which is annoying me!

I like my Instincts battery life. If a watch is at a mobile phone level of need for frequent charging is be out.

You'll find the battery life on a Fenix 6 is pretty decent. I probably only charge mine once a week and have the smaller version which has a correspondingly smaller battery. That's with constant wear and two or three runs or bike rides a week.

I went 6S to Epix 2. You won't be disappointed (sorry)

Damn it, first the R-Tek garage floor tiles (I've still not bought those but plan to soon!) now this comment - we should stop crossing paths on PH!

I have a £200 voucher from work and should get a bit of cash from selling my 6S so thinking I can justify the man maths as a birthday present from me to me...

I think the 6X is an excellent watch. I probably charge mine about once a month. In that time i would typically have done two 5k runs both with GPS recording and two 3hr bike rides again with GPS and also with mapping on display. I use it about 4 times a week in the gym but that doesn't use GPS so much lower battery usage. I only wear it for exercise. I'd like to say for sure what the battery life is but it's never run out. So unless you're planning on using the GPS an awful lot, I don't think battery life is an issue.

I did have an issue recently when it stopped charging. A bit of Googling suggested that the charging pins on the back get oily so cleaning those should sort it. About 10 seconds with methylated spirits and a tooth brush cleaned them and charging resumed as normal. Despite this, I would definitely recommend.

i also have a 6X - just over a year old. and i wouldn't change. 50+ hours on GPS is more than enough for me. i run 30-40 miles/wk, which is 4-5 days. and doing some utras at 7-8 hrs long. i'm not even scratching the surface of what it can do - i just love it - and the full colour maps are lovely. i know it doesn't have touch screen, but still - it's an awesome bit of kit.

I've ordered both as both offers expire soon...

I must admit the grey fabric/larger face appeals. Partly as I don't like metal or rubber straps.

The Fenix would possibly suit me better as well as the maps function for cycling but I'd probably utilise my phone/quadlock more.

Personally I think touchscreens are a terrible idea on fitness watches. I had an Android watch years ago and it was infuriating. Was always getting knocked, and if it rained it was almost impossible to use. Garmin's 5 button system is pretty intuitive (long time FR935 user - basically a Fenix 5 in a lighter body).

Cheers! It's a bit long in the tooth now (nearly 4 years I've had it and has been superceded twice), but it does everything I need (and plenty more besides). One of the few bits of tech I've bought that I've been totally happy with. New screen protector and strap recently and it looks new, and the battery still lasts more than a week.

They are amazing bits of kit - and I also keep mine years. I originally had a Suunto Ambit 2 - that did me 6 years before I changed it for the 6X. It’s capable of so much more than I use it for - it was a little indulgent, but I don’t regret it a bit. Every time I use it I enjoy it biggrin

I initially like Suunto but the straps always broke for me.

hehe

You do notice the extra size, but the screen is lovely. I have a few different bands for it now too. Battery life more than good enough and similar to the 6S. I do like the maps feature, as I'm now doing more hiking.
