I've wanted one since they were released somewhere around 16 years ago. I had a wedding to pay for at the time, and have never got round to getting once since, but I can't get rid of the desire to own one.

My concern is reliability on what is now going to be a fairly old piece... The Caliber 2 movement will be fairly old by now (assuming it's not been replaced). Does anyone have any experience or opinions they would be kind enough to share please? This is of course assuming I can find one... or should I just go for a regular Monaco and save myself potential grief?

Thanks all!

I don't, but I have much want for the new Monaco having tried it on whilst on holiday this year

so, will await feedback with interest.

OP, as an aside, if you do decide to go for a new one, very healthy discounts are achievable (20-25%)

cheers all

I've always liked the look of them. I've no direct experience but I understand the proportions can be a bit awkward on the wrist so definitely one to try in person if you can.

A point worth mentioning, my friend has the Tag Microotimer (the digital side of the 69) and the digital module died. He is really struggling to find a replacement. I'm not sure if this failure is an isolated case but perhaps something to consider.

Good to know thank you, but I suspect the new ones I like are outside of my budget anyway!

Thank you. This is exactly the sort of concern I had. Maybe a 'regular' one is a better course of action.

I didn't think I would like them, not really my thing.

Then tried one on and loved it, would have bought it but the salesperson refused to budge on the price and said they were made of unobtainium, which isn't the case

What is it you didn't like? I tend to prefer a circular case (visual only), I doubt it would be any less comfortable. I just don't like the case.

I think it was probably the shape of the case, and the overall aesthetic of the watch.

(This isn't necessarily the right word/phrase) but I thought it was/would be a bit hackneyed/naff/cliched.

On the wrist it was quite different and actually I thought it was a lovely watch smile

OP, you are talking about the "Reverso" Sorry jaeger Monaco with analogue one side and digital the other ?

If so, never even seen one in the metal to comment.

I do like my more "traditional" Heuer Gulf 50 year anniversary though. Its not a daily wear watch, but its a lovely thing to bring out from time to time!

I have one that I bought in 2006. It's been serviced 3 or 4 times, and I had to replace the strap quite a few years ago. Never had any issues with it at all. I wore it pretty much everyday until 2010, and then perhaps 50% of the time until a couple of years ago. It's always been on a winder when not used.

No worries, that CBL2111 is a thing of beauty and would probably be the more sensible option (although not buying new at £6k!!)

Good to know, thank you. Reliability is by far my biggest concern, especially given that they are nigh on 20 years old in some cases now and the digital modules don't seem to have a good reputation!

Sorry, I think there is some confusion here. Mine is a CW2111, which doesn't have the digital module (and I don't think the link you posted was digital either). Apologies for any confusion!

ETA, just realised link wasn't posted by you! My error!

I would suggest it's one you really need to try on your wrist before committing. I was a huge fan of the Monaco for years before being in the position to buy one, the square case makes it 'wear' very big and I was a bit self conscious at first. The 69 adds to this by being almost double height.
