Dropped off my SUB date (daily) at St James for its 2nd service.

Should be straightforward i hope. scratchchin Standard service now £600, up £100 since last time i took it.

Should hear back in few days on costs and then 31 working days to return it apparently.

Apparently they send to Kent for service. The St James workshop only for warranty work.

How many years ago did you last have it serviced?

Did you get a quicker than normal turnaround as that sounds quick.
I was recently quoted £900 for a service of my Explorer 2.
My Omega PO is currently with Omega getting a service (£450) and was advised it will take up to 16 weeks. Hope to have it back by Xmas.

A really quick turnaround.

What was the extra £30 for?

Not bad that, I got quoted £600 just for service about 3 years ago for a 36mm Datejust (1999 model) and then about another £1800 for stuff it "needed"

At the time it was fully handled by St James but sounds like they are sending it to the Kent site now.

Genuine question - was it working before it went in? If so why bother, just run it until it stops then take it in for service as apparently they pretty much strip down and repair everything.

I could be in the wrong, but to me that just seems like wasted money (and I say that having a few mechanical watches I like).

Is servicing of mechanical watches worth doing or just money that could go into a repair/another one.

Last service was back in 2015 (so 7 year ago).

They say every abt 5 years to have a service. I daily this watch.

They had mentioned 30 working days for turn around..

Handed it in on the 13th Oct, received quotation on the 14th Oct, confirmed work go ahead 17th Oct and work fully complete ready for pick up on the 3rd Nov. Understand the service stuff goes off to the labs in Kent. Very impressed.

The total costs of £639.60 was for complete overhaul along with change of crown and gasket (which was the £39.60 extra).

There were 2 "option" they suggested for replacement.

The black bezel disc @ £49.20 (scratch - not even noticeable) and the Sapphire crystal with cyclops and gasket £112.80 which they mention there was a chip (cannot be seen).....Didn't do either. Didn't want it factory new for sentimental reasons.

I guess if you never service it and hand it in when it stops working you may end up paying perhaps bigger bill if things actual fail.

Surprised they would warrant it without the extra work, mine had a tiny little chip in the edge of the crystal on the outside but they wouldn't warrant it without that being replaced.

In the end I went to Watchguy who did a service and new gaskets and mine runs a charm now.

My Sub 16800 was completely overhauled in 2008 at St James I bought the watch a year later of the owner. It runs great only -8 secs a day so going to leave it for a few years and have it done before handing to my grandson. I hardly wear it so it’s no biggi
