Bought a used watch over the internet for 3.5k from a very well regarded seller with 5 stars on trustpilot and lots of testimonials. Described as immaculate in the listing. On arrival, I immediately noticed significant large scratching / marking on the anti reflective coating on the glass. Everything else is immaculate as described. What does everyone else think, is significant marking on the face falling within the description of immaculate? In my view to return it to that condition would now require a replacement glass at significant cost. I could try to remove the AR coating but then it’s not as it was intended to be and not an immaculate product which I was offered.

If you arent happy with it, return for a refund. Not sure why you'd need to ask that on here?

New to luxury watch buying and trying to ascertain if this is unreasonable. Hopefully I’ve passed your qualification check for posting a question on a forum.

Send it back. You should not have any problems with a reputable dealer, and I believe distance selling regulations would allow you to return it even if it was fine and you just didn't like it.

It will bug you every time you see it if you decide to keep it.

If it has scratches then its not "immaculate", so therefore not as described.

The DSR no longer exist. Does the CRA apply to used goods?

This will sound stupid but I thought worth mentioning, sometimes they'll ship with a protective sticker over the 'glass', which can have bubbles / marks that look like scratches... There isn't any protective stickering still on it is there?

I had this with a watch that was a Christmas present for the other half. I phoned and chatted to the seller (Watches of Mayfair) and they explained the above, and said it's protective packaging they apply, and that I'm welcome to remove it and verify it's all OK without it impacting the warranty etc. Really helpful people.

Online, mail and telephone order customers have the right to cancel their order for a limited time even if the goods are not faulty. Sales of this kind are known as ‘distance selling’.

You must offer a refund to customers if they’ve told you within 14 days of receiving their goods that they want to cancel. They have another 14 days to return the goods once they’ve told you.

You must refund the customer within 14 days of receiving the goods back. They do not have to provide a reason.

Thanks all. There was a sticker on it which I have removed. Perhaps I will ask if the seller wants to cover the cost of a glass replacement to avoid the hassle of returns. Pretty disappointing experience so far.

What watch it is? The AR coating on Omegas can mark easily.

What is there to say that the dealer will accuse you of scratching it when you send it back.....

If they're happy to sell as a watch as immaculate and then send you a scratched one????

I don't think it's stupid to suggest it at all, happened to 2 watches of mine .. one of which I went on a rampage at the dealer with, until he gently pointed it out. Second one I'd learned from my previous mistake smile

I wore a new Skagen for 2 months without noticing it had film on the dial; when I removed it I was even happier than I had been originally biggrin
