I mislaid my gen 1 iwatch for a year or so. Came to charge it and it’s flashing the white then red apple logo and that’s it - despite being on charge for 12 hours.

Looking online it’s a known issue that a hard reset would usually fix - alas it hasn’t. Spoke to an Apple agent shop and he basically said it’s old and likely is now no longer receiving updates from Apple and to take it to a third party outfit.

Anyone had this issue and know of potential cost to fix? Surely just because it’s of the nature of the watch, it shouldn’t just die and not be able to come back to life?

By Gen 1 do you mean one of the original ones from 2015?

Realistically this has no chance of working again. My one failed in a very similar way after not being charged for 6 months or so. At that point it was replaced under warranty and then became unusably slow in a couple of years time.

Unfortunately even if the battery works again, not sure if it could cope with the current OS on it.

Just be grateful it lasted this long. There are some sad tts who have spent enough on every iteration apple have released they could have had a Rolex by now.

You can try repeatedly putting on the charger for an hour or two, taking it off and putting it back on. You might get lucky and get enough juice into it that the charger recognises it and starts charging. I rescued one like that this year.

But, the chances of it being useful are low. I would replace it.
