Hi,

One is a pepsi 7002A1 which is dire, the other my cherished SKX007 which won't allow me to change the time with the crown out (it just keeps winding).

I've tried emailing Joe @anglesey watches but not had any reply. (I hope he's ok). I'm not on FB either, so cannot contact him that way.

The reason I'm asking here is because my SKX is very dear to me, my Wife purchased it for me with her first ever Christmas wage packet after coming to the UK to work as an HCA prior to becoming a Nurse. It's one of those situations where even if the repair is more than the value of the watch, I'll still pay it. The SKX is 22 years old now and is sitting looking forlorn in my watch box.

If anyone can suggest someone then it would be most appreciated.

TIA and Happy New Year to all of you.

You could send them to Seiko in Maidenhead:

Cheers, but I was looking for a more personal touch and maybe to support a small or local business, I know it might never happen, but in a large "corporate" or business environment like that, if my SKX was lost then a replacement sent out with a "sorry we lost your watch, here's another" note, it wouldn't be a good day out for me.

Also, the 7002A1 might end up in the bin as being beyond economical, which I wouldn't be happy with.

Sounds like something is wrong with the keyless works on the skx….

They both use the same movement I think - 7s26

An alternative would be to replace the movement with an nh35 which you could do yourself with a few tools and a load of YouTube vids. The 7s26 original movement has become quite expensive now.

Just had a movement replaced in my Monster and having a bush replaced with a jewel in my 7002-7000, all carried out by a guy local to me.

Price for the new movement was £160, turnaround was about 6 wks but I was in no rush. Watch has been cleaned and looked like new when I got it back.

Will use him for my Tag service next year.

His website is http://www.cmwatch.co.uk/ guys name is Craig.

I’d use the official Seiko route without hesitation based on recent experience of having an oddball 9T82 serviced that is quite cherished. Good communication and online tracking; returned ahead of time with work done exactly as agreed - was actually very easy to speak with/email named individuals to arrange, who were friendly and instilled confidence.

I'd go to a local watch repairer. Any competent repairer should be able to work on either of those watches, and new movements are cheap enough if needed.

Having said that, I used an online guy to do a Dial mod for me and he was quick, reasonably priced, and communicated well - I'm sure he also did standard servicing / movement swaps. Pm me if you want his details.

I agree, the sevice was excellent when I used them which was why I recommended them.

Many thanks for the suggestions guys,

Mr Pointy, I'll contact Seiko this week and ask them directly about my SKX. I was kind of reticent because I assumed the service might be very impersonal whereas your experience tells me it is perhaps different to that so I'll give them a go.

Meanwhile I'm awaiting a bit of back pay and I'm really tempted by one of these:

Just a bump. Sent my SKX007 out this week, had a pleasant email and quote from Seiko for repair at £110 which I thought was very reasonable, so going ahead.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll send the other one off next month when I get back from my holiday.

Meanwhile temptation has got the better of me and I've purchased a secondhand Vostok and a very cheap Sekonda white faced beater for work. both combined were less than a full tank of Diesel for the wife's hateful Range Rover Evoque.

I know which will give me more pleasure over the long term.
