50th Birthday Watch Suggestions
Discussion
I have my 50th birthday coming up in a couple of months. I'd like to mark the occasion by buying watch.
I'm looking for suggestions from you good people of what i could consider.
i have a budget of £7,000 maximum. On my list for consideration so far, I have -
JLC Reverso
JLC Master Control
90's Rolex Datejust 36mm
Grand Seiko GMT SBGM 221
IWC Mk XX
Omega Seamaster 300
No preference for whether dress watch, sports etc
For my 40th, I bought a Riolex Milgauss GV, which I still love.

If that doesn't do it for you then 100% a JLC, although £7k for a Master Control might not be enough?

The Fifty Fathoms was mentioned, another watch I love, but way too big for me. The Bathyscaphe is more my size, but a little over budget! Same with the Breguet Marine (previous generation) stunning watch, but a little over budget!
I saw this at Blowers in Hull, and I can’t work out why it’s so cheap!

Thank you for the suggestions so far. There’s something about JLC, I’m really drawn to them, and I’ve never owned one.

That is lovely but that web page with the dots is distressing! The Fifty Fathoms was mentioned, another watch I love, but way too big for me. The Bathyscaphe is more my size, but a little over budget! Same with the Breguet Marine (previous generation) stunning watch, but a little over budget!

From this list, the two JLCs hands down. With that budget and for this occasion I think JLC are a great option.JLC Master Control

I'd also consider the Cartier Santos, the Breitling Premier B09 pistachio and the Omega Aqua Terra small seconds. It's hard to find one but the beige version is absolutely gorgeous in person. The photos definitely don't do it justice.

A 36mm DJ will be available in your birth year with some digging. Might make it a bit more special. The rust spots on the dials, the rounded cases due to many polishes, the sloppy bracelets all served to remind me that I was knocking on a bit!
That, and the fact that sellers put a premium on 50 year old watches, led me to look elsewhere.

I mean no disrespect to the other brands in the list (and own both Rolex and Omega watches myself) but in my opinion JLC is a level above anything else there.I'm looking for suggestions from you good people of what i could consider.

Personally I am a big fan of chronographs, with your budget a pre owned JLC Master Chronograph would be the one.
If you'd rather a brand new watch a JLC Polaris should be in budget depending which model. These look SO much better in person than in picture.
Watchfinder have a couple of nice options, including a rose gold one which stretches the budget a little bit but would surely be worth it
