So ... As I said on the Rolex thread last weekend ... I'm not seeing the quality improvement for the 100% uplift in rolex Sub's price over a £4~5k watch.

Recently Mrs T6 said Why yes you can spend some savings on a new £4~5k watch I'm going to be away doing ..... during next week .. can I trust you on your own, woohoo So I've spent many hours last week at work on my lunchbreaks looking at various £4~5k watches..

TLDR .. So I've identified not only an opportunity to purchase without discovery but also a short list on potential purchasessmile

As per the title ... what would be your nomination for my potential purchase,
Ideally a 'daily wearer' suitable for similar wear as a Date Sub...not outrageous or obnoxious like my usual purchases
My shortlists are
1, Either blue or Dark Grey/black faced,
2, Not Alligator leather but more likely Rubber, Sailcloth or a Bracelet.
3, Sturdy or Diver style ... Not a JlC Reverso or a Gold dress watch

Have at it ... give me your best nominations thumbup

Whenever i put my Tag Calibre 5 Aquaracer on, i'm always pleasantly surprised at the quality - not that far off my Submariner.

Longines Spirit looks like a very good quality watch, not a diver though of course.

Also not a dive watch, but the Omega Aqua terra - brilliant watch!

Grand Seiko. The comparison videos make Rolex quality control look like it came from Wish.

Surely a Tudor is what you’re after?

By definition!

(Is there a thread that explains why grown men need to justify their spending decisions to their wives? Unless she’s the main breadwinner and you contribute FA surely you spend your money how you please, within reason).

I'd go for an Omega Seamaster personally ( I have one).

Tudor pelagos or blackbay range also worth a look

I’d say Grand Seiko for sure, also Glashutte Original is a different league. Something like the Muhle SAR makes the submariner look a bit wimpy, for about 2K

I've not compared any of my watches to a Rolex, but I can't fault the quality on my Breitling Superocean Heritage II or my TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 5.

I love this thread, something we can all identify with!

Having just picked up a used BB58 navy blue for a fraction of the cost of a sub, I can highly recommend it as a daily.

However, at £4/5k I think I’d be going for a black 38mm Aqua Terra or a green Seamaster 300M.

Alternatively I do like the green Grand Seiko GMT, I forget the reference though. Have to look past the strong Explorer II vibes though.

Just to return to the thread,

Great shout ... It'll join the list with several other Seamasters ... I'm liking the Nekton/Beijing Seamaster with the steel bezel but I'm loving the blue second hand

Again several on the radar ... with the Taisetsu Winter Snow really hitting the quality but discrete target

My Seamaster is nearly ten years old and to be honest, there’s nothing I’d change it for except a new shape Seamaster.

Possibly a bit unadventurous but I like Omegas (my dad always had them) and it’s perfect for what I need it for.

Maybe a deal could be struck on this, particularly if you’re heading to the USA at some point:

I'd say Grand Seiko surpasses Rolex at a lower or similar price point.

I think most modern Tudors compare favourably to the previous generation Rolex if that makes sense? Though given the family link, they'll never be 'better' in that respect IMO

The obvious candidates are the Seamaster or any Zenth that fall into the budget.

The thing with Rolex is, even with the relatively 'simple' watches, they still have a lot more to them than clever marketing.
