Watch safe recommendations
Discussion
Seeing as there are people on here with some fairly expensive watch collections it seems a sensible place to ask about safes. At present I've got a fairly basic one that my watch collection normally lives, but I know that a determined person could no doubt force it with the array of tools and my Makita collection in the garage, so I want to upgrade, but to what ? I must confess I'm hoping to grab a fireproof safe as my house deeds currently take up most of the space in my current cheapo safe.
So, without giving too much away to the scumballs of the world, what have you got and how do you rate it etc etc !

I'm just looking for a floor mounted safe and will probably go back to a supplier used at my old house. I would want the ability to bolt into the floor and a £6-8,000 cash rating to allow me to keep watches and Mrs Yex's jewellery in it when not being worn. I expect to pay about £800-1200 for something suitable fully installed and with some form of fire protection. The supplier will arrive in an unmarked van and not be wearing any clothing with company name visible.
If you haven't had a safe before speak to a local installer as they are usually well versed in the type of safe you need and where to actually install it in your property.

I think there are a number of factors at play here.
Yes, you could talk to your insurers but many dont care or insist on a safe for valuables. Holding cash - almost certainly they will. My insurer (Hiscox) is more concerned over my watches which are worn outside, rather than those kept in the home.
A good safe is a good safe and one that is heavy and bolted to the floor is a better safe.
I would also state that a simple cheap safe that is screwed down in a well-hidden and difficult to get to place is a reasonable precaution as compared to a large Euro6 bolted to your fireplace hearth in the living room. Leaving a simple cheap safe on the shelf above the sock draw in the wardrobe....not good.

Hiscox were very much concerned with what safe I had once the value of my collection reached a certain point. They then wanted me to further upgrade a few years later. I wasn't prepared to so I'm insured elsewhere now. My advice would be ask your insurer, but but the next cash rating up to help futureproof yourself.
