Dive watches - blue vs black
Discussion
I was wondering why blue seems to be so popular for dive watches. Every time a new watch comes out in black, there are tons of comments about "can't wait for this in blue". Also I was at an Omega store recently and the dealer there stated that blue is by far the more popular option for watches like the Planet Ocean.
As far as I can tell, if I wanted an every day watch that can go with any outfit (like a PO), I'd get black, as it goes with anything. What are your thoughts on blue vs black? Am I missing something to consider blue or is it just personal preference?

I have a 2017 blue omega Seamaster 300m. I think that black is just a bit too plain/boring whereas blue is slightly more interesting but can still be worn in most situations. My 2017 model is more of a matt navy blue colour with no waves on the dial. For me it is the perfect everyday watch- ideal size, slim enough, can wear it with anything (formal or casual).
I have tried on the new omega Seamaster 300m in blue but the blue colour is noticeably lighter than the previous model and has white numbering around the bezel (previous model has grey numbering). It’s also bigger and more sportier looking. I didn’t like it as much as my current previous version. The new model can’t really be worn with a shirt to a formal event either.
I think if I was wanting to buy a “do it all watch” now, it would have to be the Speedmaster Moon. The new Seamaster 300m is just too sporty looking for me.

Like the poster above I also have the blue Seamaster (same as in his pic) compared to the black one it just looked better, I do kind of regret not getting a slightly older one with the waves on the dial though, not a fan of the newer one with the waves though.
However I would only consider a Rolex Submariner in black.

Personally I agree that black / grey would be the most appropriate for a diver watch
But it appears the currently in vogue Green is making a concerted effort to overthrough Blue,
Of course dispite agreeing black / grey being most appropriate .. my latest diver

But it was bought for other reasons than diving

I'd really like a Tudor Submariner (79190, below), in blue, as much as I love my (black) Sub Date and Seadweller:

Just gives it a little something extra, to these eyes, albeit the Omega blue hues have never done much for me.
I even have an (aftermarket) blue face on my Sub as a I type. I do like blue, though the Sub would go back to black if the Tudor itch is ever scratched.

When I was looking for a new watch last year, I wanted a dive watch in the standard black, I'd narrowed it down to a Christopher Ward as bang for buck they are great value, being set on a Trident Pro 600, the wife however said black was boring, so I went for a #tide which is blue with a fantastic blue sapphire crystal face, which really pops and sparkles, I'm so pleased with it and glad I opted for something a bit different to the standard black dive watch.
Whilst some may think a blue watch isn't as versatile with regards to what it may or may not go with, think about denim jeans, jeans are generally blue and pretty much universally accepted as a go to style for most combinations of dress colour, they just seem to work.
Anyhow, this is me now, very blue watch with a pink jumper, it works:

So glad I listened to the wife.

I have a blue Breitling, black sub and black seamaster 300m without waves. I really like the black as it’s not too showy.
I also have a grey and blue omega. Just added a Tudor black bay bronze too.
Which is different to everything else colour wise.

But I’d go with black every time for daily wear now.
You either like blue or you don't.
Jody on JOMW clear doesn't (and admits to it), which often leads to him recommending some truly horrible or plain dull colour combinations.
I've got my share of black and blue (and a white) divers, but I think blue dials and bezel combinations look great, personally, and are usually my first choice.

For some reason, I find blue can usually go with anything, but my logical brain knows that black can too. Maybe it's a mindset thing, or it's because I usually have a pair of blue jeans on, I don't know, as someone said, blue is the most popular colour in the world.
I have the non-wave Omega Seamaster in both blue and black and the blue does get worn more than the black but then it also depends on what car I am driving too! I like to wear a watch that doesn't clash with the colour of the car.
Typing that out has actually made me wonder if I need therapy.
