Used ladies watch. £3.5-£4k
Discussion
Evening all.
A female work colleague of mine is wanting to buy herself something nice for her 50th.
She’s open to the idea of buying something used and getting it serviced to make, (hopefully), large savings on the cost vs new.
Her original preference was for a bi metal Rolex Datajust, which will just squeeze into budget. She’s admitted that she’d like a Rolex purely because she doesn’t know anything about watches and Rolex is the only brand that she knows.
With the above in mind, do you chaps have any other recommendations? I had suggested a Cartier Tank, but she doesn’t like square watches. Nor does she like the Hamilton Ventura.
Thanks in advance.

The Princess of Wales wears one and many ladies like her style.

I personally like Cartier on a lady. A female work colleague of mine is wanting to buy herself something nice for her 50th.

Also worth considering whether she will be happy with an automatic Rolex. I find that most girls just want a watch that tells the right time and are not overly bothered about the little machine within.

Seems like a crazy idea. Why spend a lot of money on something that someone else has worn ?
Each to their own, but would you say the same about cars? Peoples bums have been sat in that seat after all. With the exception of my Pasha and the Wife’s Tank, all of the rest of my watches are pre-owned.

Has to be Rolex or Cartier at that price point really.
Or Chanel J12 is popular with ladies too.
Is she large or small? What size and material is she looking for?
I’d agree with either Rolex or Cartier for a lady, unless you’re then getting into the realms of Patek Phillipe and Breguet, which might be beyond budget.Or Chanel J12 is popular with ladies too.

The lady in question is around average height and average build for a 50yr old woman that’s had a couple of children.
I’ve already shown her a picture of the smaller, (35mm?) Cartier Pasha, but she wasn’t keen as she thought it was too plain. I suspect that the other Cartier mentioned, (the one that Lady Di used to wear), might get the same reaction.
I suspect that the Frank Muller might be a ‘no’ due to its square(ish) face, but I’ll show her some pictures of it.
I also suspect that this might just be a status symbol thing for her rather than an appreciation of a various brands history or the overall quality of the timepiece, and is therefore likely to be either a Rolex or nothing.
Whilst I might not agree with that, it’s not me spending the money, so my opinion counts for nothing in that regard.
Is a Rolex, comes with box, £2.5k > https://www.chrono24.co.uk/rolex/lady-datejust--id...

Funnily enough, I’ve literally just been looking on Chrono24, ladies watches, all brands, £4250 max.Or perhaps in blingy pink > https://www.chrono24.co.uk/rolex/rolex-datejust-26...
Do Chrono24 guarantee the authenticity of the watches on their site? What protections are there for the buyer if the watch turns out to be a replica?
