Thanks for looking. I know very little about watches other than I have an old submariner I bought when I was 18 and a Panerai that my ex wife kindly bought for me many years ago. That watch is not working anymore. Thing is I don’t wear either of them - probably twice a year maybe, and I was thinking that I might sell the Panerai one.

What is the best way to get it fixed? Should it go to a specialist, and if so can anyone help with a recommendation? I’m guessing that if I send it to Panerai it will cost so much it wont actually be worth selling? It’s just a basic “luminor” model.

Thanks,

AllyM

Circa £500 to service, via your local Panerai dealer.

Don’t sell it as non-working, any buyer will want your trousers down.

I found recently a lot of places can’t service Panerai. I had to send my 317 Luminor directly to Panerai, so likely they are the best option. If you go to the Panerai site, you can organise a service from there.

Mine should be arriving back from Panerai tomorrow, took about 10 weeks.

Older Panerai have ETA movements that have been round for decades, a good watch maker should be able to get it running.
Do you have any pics ?

Indeed - need to know the model/movement to comment

Even a base Luminor is going to be worth £3.5kish so personally I'd get a Panerai service for peace of mind & authenticity if selling on.

I would have a chat with Dom Hackett (if you are UK based) but I am sure a genuine Panerai service is the correct answer. Armed with a recent service, yours will be the best Luminor on the market. Just done the same with a Calatrava.

I recently used the panerai service request via their website. After completing the online form, panerai send you prepaid shipping boxes & the watch is sent direct to the service centre.
My 176 was £465 for a full strip & service & repair ( the mainspring had snapped).
Came back in 6 weeks. No issues & a great service.

Thanks very much for that, really helpful. I will send it to Panerai as those prices sound very reasonable indeed. I seem to remember paying a lot more to have the rolex one “serviced” years ago, and expected similar!

I also had the crystal replaced as I had damaged it & the titanium case refinished (at extra cost). It came back like new.

Bypassing the dealer network is attractive to me as past experience has taught me its them that cause delays & poor communication.
