Fancy a new watch.

Probably my ideal would be a Rolex OP in Tiffany blue.

But I'm not inclined to spend that much, and a Rolex isn't really consistent with the rest of my lifestyle (drive a ford, shop at John Lewis).

But that's the aesthetic I want. Rolex OP, grand Seiko.

On paper the Christopher ward C63 or Twelve are ideal. But there's something about them that just doesn't tickle my fancy. The logo maybe. The name perhaps. The twelve in that mint green colour is tempting though.

So what's out there that might fit the bill at about a grand?

First watch that springs to mind is the Tissot PRX. It looks very similar to the Rolex oysterquartz and also comes in a dial colour similar to a Tiffany blue. Should fit well within the set budget too!

It is indeed a good deal for the money, and if the comments “ Couldn’t afford the real thing” don’t matter then go for it

The 12 is more sporty than the OP. You could browse integrated bracelet watches and see what else jumps out. The Tissot PRX is probably the best known.

Mido do some lovely watches for around £1k. I'm a big fan of the Multifort TV big date but a Multifort Chronotimer might work for you? Great build, great bracelet, in house movement, a lot to like.

I know you said you weren't inclined to spend Rolex money, but if you can afford to do so, don't let the perception that it doesn't fit your lifestyle stop you - that's nonsense imo.

Thanks folks, some great suggestions so far.

I'm liking those midos - a manufacturer I've never heard of before. Quite like the multifort - very tag Carrera, which is also a watch I like.

The mido commander gradient is piqueing my interest - do you think it will age well or become dated quite rapidly?

Take this in the right way, OP, but... come on! If you like it, buy it!

Mido stuff is really great value, but it almost certainly won't be an investment, so it's irrelevant whether others think it's nice, or if it will date, or whatever, expecially if you want to hang on to it. Looking for advice on value is one thing, checking if it meets other people's taste is another.

If you're comfortable spending the money, just dive in biggrin

It does, doesn't it.

Thanks to swoll's contribution on the previous "£1k - tell me what I like" thread, I should have one inbound once my jet-set sister makes her next trip to Geneva...

I agree, there's a lot to like there and I can totally see the appeal for reasons outlined above.

From my perspective, however, it's a shame it's essentially a Nautilus homage.

The model itself dates back to 1973 apparently, so 3 years before the first Nautilus was released.

beer

Plan to pick one up myself at some point soon having passed one of my watches down to my son to wear for work, thus leaving a slot for something a bit smarter in my collection.

It has a heritage of its own, so good for that.
Always liked watches with a pillow cases (that's why I still hang on to my Cellini Danaos), and would like to have a wearable one with automatic.
What are the clasps and the straps like, as my only memory of Midos is quite a long time ago, and had a leather strap. Watch back then was a nice one to wear and to look at, albeit a little boring, a Commander, I guess.

Also a big fan of cushion cases, even my current diver has that vibe unusually.

Mido bracelets/clasps are some of the best around at the price point apparently. Lots of comment about strong wearability also from reviews I've read.

All in appears a lot of watch for the price IMHO and with genuine heritage as you say. Plan to have a look at one in the flesh next time the wife drags me off to Bicester Village.

Take your point. I'll buy what I like of course, regardless.

Several midos are interesting me,.I'd never heard of them before.
