Sold a Rolex OP 41 on eBay so need to post it off to their Authenticator.

Does anyone know the best options for posting it fully insured? Watch sold for £6,650.

Royal Mail special delivery only covers up to £2,500 for watches and google brings up a variety of mixed messages

Thanks

I recently sold my Rolex to Goldsmiths and it was posted through DPD, although Goldsmiths did arrange this for me - DPD collected from my house, took a photo at point of collection and then delivered to Goldsmiths on a signiture only type delivery. The whole process was very good and stressfree

Thanks. Although it looks like their limit might be £5,000

Try UPS. Never once had an issue with them, collect from you at home and a quick quote would suggest a more reasonable cost then you mention.

Thanks, thought they might be the best option but watches only covered up to £1,000

Out of interest, do watches fall under the low fees offers too do you know?

I have been thinking of selling a Breitling, would be quite a big difference I imagine ? (Value £3500-4000 at a guess, not many for sale)

Best way is to use Royal Mail SD and then Secursus to cover the watch full price.

Royal Mail will only insure up to value of £2500 .... and to be clear, they are saying you are going against their terms if its more ... "You must not post any package under this agreement which contains any item whose value is more than £2,500... "

Effectively, they will noy pay out if they lost a £4k watch and you saud you'd be happy with £2500!

Secursus will cost you approx 1% of the watch value to insure for the full amount.

I had a bad experience with Royal Mail sending my watch to Germany for a repair. They never explained why, but it ended up in Northern Ireland at the facility they use to destroy packages. It was rescued and did finally make it to Germany. I personally wouldn't use them.

When the watch was returned the watchmaker used FedEx and recommended I also use them in the future. I haven't used them personally but I'd try them.

You can buy standalone postal insurance. Looks like £70 for a £7k item sent via royal mail

I had a Patek that disappeared in the RM Birmingham sorting office, it was in its way from Watches of Switzerland to their factory for repair, other items went missing apparently. I’d use a courier or insist on collection (pay for petrol etc).

Using Secursus as a private individual is no longer straightforward. You need to get their agreement to cover the shipment & have a certificate of sale which is signed by both both parties before shipping.

RMSD will insure an item valued up to £5,000 but only for £2,500 in compensation.

It doesn’t look like that way, only need that for the claim.

Just a heads up to say I posted RM special delivery at 4pm yesterday with the Secursus insurance on top.

Had a message from eBay at 11am today to say it’s been authenticated and on to the buyer for delivery tomorrow and my funds will be received tomorrow too.

Really easy and straightforward to do and removes a lot of the risk of being scammed by the buyer

I'm not sure when this came in. I sold a watch in July and another in March and that wasn't what I had to do when setting up the service.
