Just taken out a new house insurance with Admiral, I received a letter wanting a less than 3 year old valuation for my bi-metal gmt2 2002. Anyone had success with online valuers? Or will I have to physically take it somewhere? (I’m in east Cambs) Any helpful advice appreciated, John

A quick one without you having to do a face to face - Watchfinder will give you a price they would buy from you by sending them pictures and details. But would you be happy to use this as valuation?

Can you not just use a sample of for sale prices from various retailers? As WF valuation will have their margin taken off, which is probably at least 15%

I took my 99 Datejust into a local Rolex AD they did the valuation for "free" if I made a paper donation into the charity box, I put £50 in as it was a charity that supported my dad when he was ill (it was his watch).

Yes, good people that do that, I’ve done similar in the past doing work for people then they do a donation to charity. About 20 years ago I done a job on site for about 6 months, I got to know the nearly retired site manager very well- lovely guy. There was a bit of a boozy night to ‘top out’ the job, seeing the site manager there I spied he was wearing a Rolex datejust. Turned out his dad had passed 6 months previously, he ‘only’ had £5000 to his name, it was split 3 ways, with his third he bought his lifelong dream of a Rolex, everytime he wore the watch reminded even more of his father and the good times, lovely that, never forgot it, my son will have mine when the time comes, John
