Studio Underd0g Restock - worth it?
Discussion
So Studio Underd0g are opening a 9 hour preorder window at 3pm GMT tomorrow for their watches
Do any PH members have experience with these watches, as they do look good in photos but how do they feel in real life. £500 is not a small amount to spend, but I also like the fact that they’re assembled in the UK which likely contributes to the higher price
Personal on the wrist shots welcome - it might convince me to take a bite out of that watermelon after all

I’m a fan. Usually beyond my price-range (I’m a Casio quartz/Seiko auto guy), but the Watermelon caught my eye.
When I discovered one of my former students works for them, I took the plunge.
Really, really happy with it - my first expensive (for me) watch (possibly my last unless I find really nice vintage Omega).
Colours are amazing, quality feels great to me and the strap is delightful. Can’t comment on the movement (realise it’s not particularly exclusive) but the open back and chrono make it feel worth it for me.

FOMO makes me want one. But then FOMO made me buy another couple of watches which I think I may sell on.
They’re fun and different and my goodness the watch world needs to be less sober. But I’m not sure I want one enough to justify.
And that’s in spite of the excellent looking watches on this thread..!

I personally don't think they're worth it with that Seagull chrono movement in them. Heard too many stories of people buying those 1963 chronographs with the same movement and having it fail on them within a few months.
Those are less than half the price of Studio Underd0g watches, and even at that price a movement crapping itself would make me feel short-changed, let alone £500.

The "Seagull 1963" comes in so many variants and price ranges. There are many different models, produced by different factories, so almost impossible to know the quality. . From what I remember, the ones produced by actual Seagull are usually a lot more expensive than the ones produced by others (about same price as the Underd0g ones for a genuine Seagull Factory model). Those are less than half the price of Studio Underd0g watches, and even at that price a movement crapping itself would make me feel short-changed, let alone £500.
You'd hope that one being assembled in the UK will have a higher level of QC than the ones produced by random smaller factories in China.

I've had my eggplant one for years now and had no issues at all. Those are less than half the price of Studio Underd0g watches, and even at that price a movement crapping itself would make me feel short-changed, let alone £500.
For the £500 I think they're worth it (I think mine was a little less as it was a while ago I bought it). Movement aside the rest of the watch is very nice quality, even down to the leather on the case they come with. One of my favourite watches.

That movement has been in production for the better part of 80 years. Given how many are sold, stories of failure are not common. SU also have a growing brand image to protect, they're not going to leave customers high and dry over a failure. If they had found these to be unreliable I think they would have been forced to change as it would have had such a negative impact on the brand, even if their customer service was perfect. Those are less than half the price of Studio Underd0g watches, and even at that price a movement crapping itself would make me feel short-changed, let alone £500.

I have a Sugess 1963 with the swan neck regulator. I always had niggling issues with it from day 1 until it decided to completely stop working one day short of a years ownership. Not sure I’d be confident in buying another. Those are less than half the price of Studio Underd0g watches, and even at that price a movement crapping itself would make me feel short-changed, let alone £500.
I did spend some time hovering over the buy button for a Watermelon or a Goofy Panda.
But in the end I decided against it. I have plenty of watches and, as unique as they are, I decided against buying another watch for now. I think I might review what I have and decide what’s next. O doubt I’ll love to regret this decision..!
The movement doesn’t worry me - I always think that movements that have been around for a while usually have enough watchmakers who can service and repair.
For those who ordered - hope you enjoy..!
