I've a drawer full of old mechanical watches that are not working and one on my wrist that loses around 4 minutes per day. I'm getting fed up with mechanical watches as a practical day to day proposition.

I've always liked 'tool' type watches - mainly flieger types but don't like divers or watches with large numbered bezels.

So I've decided to look for a quartz watch with that aesthetic - around £1,000 or up to say £1,200. Nothing too large 41mm case dia max and must be on a metal bracelet

Love the look of some of the Tutima mechanical watches so something like that, but not a chrono.

..any suggestions?

Retail is £249 but can be found cheaper online. I paid £169 for mine.

Titanium too and wears smaller than the 42mm size it is.

Isn’t the standard answer a “seiko 5” (and a lot of change?)

I probably should have read the question before replying “MX-5”

Luninox do some great field watches but a lot are going to be a bit bigger than your requirements.

Think you could probably get a Omega Seamaster Quartz on the used market for about budget.

There's a range of Tissot PRX's with Quartz for about a quarter of the budget. Can get 4 different colours and take your pick every day.

Seiko Prospex are worth a look into too. Some really cool Solar powered options in there and the look solid. I bought a solar powered Seiko about 14 years ago and although I rarely wear it, it's still going strong.

Yes. Couldn't fault my Ray Mears, utterly indestructible, totally reliable.

Victorinox I.N.O.X. quartz.

Part of the testing involved it being run over by a tank, IIRC.

I’ve never owned one so can’t comment on the bracelet.

“ We created the I.N.O.X. Watch to endure a life as adventurous as yours. It can handle a ten metre drop, being driven over by a 64-ton tank, a dive down to 200 metres below sea level and two hours in a washing machine at 90 degrees”

Thanks for all the sugegstion but nothing is really hitting the spot aesthetically except perhaps the Longines.

This is the sort of look I like, and was going to buy one before dropping onto the quartz idea:

That's quite dressy, no? Not really a tool watch

IMO if you want an automatic tool watch then Damasko is also well worth a look as they have hardened cases that take a lot of abuse. If you are looking at Sinn for a tool watch then they do a tegimented case material that's more robust than the regular steel.

Few metal gshocks that might fit the bill if you like the styling. Luminox also good tool watches, although their metal cases seem to be regular steel.

I get where your coming from, it's perhaps more of a crossover.

Not too keen on the prepper look of some of the chunky quasi military offerings, and prefer the more plain and legible pilot type vibe which that particular Sinn has a bit of, if not an out and out flieger

If you will accept a watch from a non-prestige name a watch with a titanium case & strap is available for less than £200. Mine cost £95 twelve years ago, is accurate, has sapphire glass, just fitted its 5th battery, worn even when doing DIY & still looks like new.

This looks just the ticket (if a little dressy):
