As per title I need something simple to replace my ~40 year old Seiko Kinetic which doesn't work if unworn for few days
>
Must be SS or Titanium case, black or dark blue face & 32-35mm dial, and scratch resistant glass.
>
Automatics wouldn't work for similar reasons to my current kinetic - just a simple Mech windup would work for me.

So you want an everyday watch that doesn't have to be worn everyday?

Why don't you just wind up the Seiko ?

There's probably a billion on aliexpress. Some use seiko movements.

Hand wound mechanical movements have a power reserve too, you know. If you fully wound one and left it for a couple of days it would stop, just like an automatic or your kinetic.

Have you considered a mechaquartz watch? The seconds hand moves like a mechanical watch and they have 2-3 year battery lives. Plenty for under £100- try Miltado watches on Aliexpress.

thanks for suggestions:
My kinetic has been great, only had to change the capacitor once - now I'm retired the kinetic runs out of juice/power, if unworn for few days - and has no way to quickly charge it. My thinking was a simple mech watch could be wound up when required/neededsmile
>
I have a few mech automatics [presents] from over the years but they have same probs as kinetic - can't be charged quicklyfrown
AT the mo I'm using my dad's old D12 tho' its too valuable to use regularly especially working under the car etc.
>
A cheapy mech watch would suit my purpose - If there's none available - I'll need to have a rethink

Most but not all automatics can be hand wound if needed.

Thanks for that I didn't know Auto's could also be hand wound - are there particular brands that can be hand wound?

Never seen this mentioned anywhere previously

You'd get a Russian watch from Vostok or Poljot.
Paketa might be above your budget.

Rene, almost all can be hand wound. Find something you like, check to see what movement is inside and google it.

Unless you're particularly set on a mechanical watch, consider solar powered quartz options like Citizen eco-drive too - very practical, quartz accuracy and no need to wind a spring or change batteries. Eco-drive for example charges from any light source and most of them have about 6 months power reserve even if kept in complete darkness.

My Seiko 5 and Seiko Alpinist are both automatics, but only the Alpinist can be handwound. I love my Alpinist, but if you think you will hand wind regularly, you may find the screw down crown annoying.

Rene, looks like a Citizen EcoDrive would fit the bill. It’s a solar powered quartz movement so if you don’t wear it you only have to remember to leave it on the windowsill.
They’re available in steel and titanium. Loads of styles.

Thanks for replies - I just checked the 3 auto's I was given as presents mentioned earlier, WOW one of the citizens [its about 20-25 years old - but I've never used it] can be hand wound!!!!!!!
Would never have thought of trying to wind an Auto mechanical - Duh - I'm a dumbo!!

The newer Seiko movements are all hacking and winding. Look up NH35 / 4R35 movements

Rene, Please don't take this the wrong way, but given that you were not aware that you hand hand wind many autos, I have to ask...

Do you know what you've got sitting there on the far right of you collection?

Here's a hint:

I mean assuming it is what it appears to be, hasn't been redialled etc.

Wow. Certainly looks like it is what it appears to be.

I wonder what it says on the case back?

I'd assume so? He does mention in this OP that he's been wearing his fathers old D12 but it seems too valuable to be wearing around working around the car.
