Just after a general consensus for a potential purchase for my daughter. It’s for her 30th birthday and I’m personally trying to persuade her that the Tudor 1926 range of watches would be a better choice than the Tag aquaracer ( which she is looking at), as a long term investment ( & a better watch imo) for a circa £3k watch.
Any views from the watch gurus would be greatly appreciated before we take the plunge. Thanks in advance.

I think it all comes down to personal taste/opinion. I personally have never been a fan of TAG Heurer watches, I like some of the vintage/remake Heurer watches though.

TAG have an outlet at Bicester Village where you can pick up some "bargains"

I own Omega, Tudor and Rolex, I'd personally buy Tudor over TAG Heurer. Sister, Mum and Brother in law all own Tudor.

Both very different watches, if she's looking at an Aquaracer which is quite sporty, then the 1926 might be a bit too sophisticated in style. Both well made though, but I think the Aquaracer is a better fit for most situations, and probably easier to get discounted.

Assuming these are not the only watches in consideration, then you could always look at the likes of Longines or Oris and save some money, without any obvious drop in quality.

I think Rado's ceramic range look very good on girls so if your exploring other brands .....

If she wants the Tag, don’t buy her a watch she doesn’t want. I will admit I’m not a fan of the Tudor range. I think the quality is lacking and it was created to take money from people who really wanted a Rolex

For the record, my Tag has a movement that is better than any Tudor movement and is at least equal to the best movement Rolex has ever used. Tag own the El Primero movement that Zenith designed and used in the Rolex Daytona.

Get her the watch she wants, not an 'investment'.

Nothing much to add to the above, other than make sure she tries on what she thinks she likes before any money changes hands - watches can look/feel weirdly 'wrong' once on the wrist so trying on is essential.

Neither brand is an investment in the end, buy her the watch she wants so she will use it and not leave it in a box in a drawer like I did with the watch my parents bought me at 21 (I’m 44 now and still never worn it).

These are trinkets, not investments. Buy her the one she wants.

Yes, sorry ‘investment’ was a poor word to use as it will (hopefully) never be sold. By investment what I really meant was an investment in an item that will stand the test of time and still be a desirable item. Thanks for the input so far, and she will obviously make the final decision but as informed as possible by folks who know watches better than my daughter or myself.

Unless she knows a thing or two about watches she probably will never have heard of Tudor. I prefer Tudor and the quality of my Tudor is higher than my Tag but we still bought my daughter a Tag as that’s what she wanted.

OP, if she's hell bent on an Aquaracer, be aware that the battery life is around 2 years (wifey has had them last only 18 months) and it is quite expensive to replace. Opt for an automatic watch if available. As a Tudor Pelagos wearer, I'd go for the Tudor, all day long.

Just adding that if she's looking at a Tag Aquaracer the Tudor 1926 looks a little bit old fashioned by comparison and is a different style of watch. A Tudor black bay would be more comparable in terms of the design. They seem to start at about £3500 from an AD but available for less from Watchfinder including the Harrods limited edition with green bezel which is a very nice thing.

100% let her choose what she wants.. This new Tudor released yesterday very much has women in mind IMHO and might be worth sharing with her.

That looks good, 37mm ‘medium’ size, full auto movement dare I say in a youthful colour.
Nice watch.

TAG is really worshiped by the younger generation, right up there on a pedestal.

Merited to an extent, on the higher end TAG's (Monaco, and I like the look of the new Glass Box chrono's), probably not so much on the lower end stuff.

Saw it with my nieces and nephews, exact same situation as you, I was pushing Tudor, they were having non of it.

Fair play to TAG and their marketing, its clearly working a treat, and the F1 sponsorship will just enhance this further.

I have one of both, my Tag is increasingly getting less and less wear due to the due Tudor feeling much better all round.

I do agree with other people in saying get her what she wants though, buyers remorse is a very real thing.

Tudor probably better for value but if she prefers the tag then better to have the watch you like and prefer the look of than worrying about resale.
