I am thinking of getting an Omega, few years ago I bought a Tag F1, was always a bit of a bucket list thing, the next one being an Omega of some description, was toying with getting one of the Swatch ones, or a knock off but think has a to be a real one.

Have been putting £150 a month away for a while and now nearly have enough for this,

https://www.markworthingtonjewellers.co.uk/omega-p...

Anything to avoid with this, I do know the seller pretty well and they are local, wouldn't want to go much higher really, its a big chunk of cash for a watch, to me anyway !

These go for around £3k on eBay as a complete set. With the recent service I'd say it's a pretty fair price but would try and haggle for a cash deal, go in at £3.5k.

I notice they have this for sale on Chrono24 for £4.3k and I believe dealers get charged 10% fees on there (I might be wrong) so there's definitely a bit of room for movement. If you don't ask, you don't get.

Lovely watch though.

Considering it has just been serviced at Omega which will have cost well over a grand, I would say that it s a fair price. Can you see the watch personally or are you buying it online?. Maybe see if you can negotiate a wee bit off?. I have purchased from https://watchscout.uk/product-category/watches/ before and received a very nice planet ocean with 2 years Omega warranty.

Booked to see it Monday at 10am, its a ten min walk away and my youngest lads mate who I have known for the best part of twenty years dad owns it, and he works there, so think should get looked after.

Says the work in Sept was £824, would rather pay a bit more than risk eBay which could see me end up with a fake or one needing money spending anyway.

I have a Planet Ocean - although not the chronograph. Lovely watches although they are quite big - which doesn't bother me as I am built like two separate gorillas.

Will see what it looks like on my wrist on Monday, actually slightly smaller than my Apple Watch Ultra I think, I am not small but my wrist aren’t massive.

He rang me and we are all arranged, have paid a refundable deposit, they have to get them to the shop, not kept on the premises for obvious reasons.

Would personally be disappointed being asked to pay a deposit in this scenario.

Can see what you mean but not bothered about that, they have a protocol that he doesnt set, hopefully there is a little wiggle room on the price.

Hope it looks ok on your wrist - it is a lovely watch indeed.

Yeah, I think it may be a bit big, he is bringing a couple of others to look at as well and I am not buying anything unless I feel right with it on.

Looks great in photos and good that it’s been serviced.

The thing you need to look out for on this, at 14 years old, is the wear in the bracelet. The servicing cost doesn’t suggest the bracelet has had anything more than a polish.

Hold the watch and bracket horizontally and see how much the clasp deflects from the watch head.

Well, Plant Ocean is a no go, too much watch for my wrist, size and depth of the thing is just too much.

So, he had the 300 GMT to look at and thats more like it,

https://www.markworthingtonjewellers.co.uk/omega-s...

Have asked he also brings this in to compare,

https://www.markworthingtonjewellers.co.uk/omega-s...

Well an identical one, couldnt fine it on the website, its a year old one at £4195,

He said he can do a bit of a deal, I dont think their prices are unreasonable for jeweller selling on the high street, and the watches are like new, yes can find them on eBay a lot cheaper but he showed me another Planet Ocean that had looked more or less ok but needed over £1500 to get it pristine.

Going back tomorrow lunchtime, any thoughts ?

Its sort of minor collectable/slightly rarer but older model vs a nearly new run of the mill, more or less entry level model.

I dont think the GMT is as good value looking at other used prices, so am erring on the nearly new 300.

Am I missing something here? One of those watches is 25 years old, isn't that a lot of money for a 25 year old Omega?
Or is it collectible?

Minimally collectible, no shortage of them I don’t think, the new ones seems better value.

That GMT looks polished to within an inch of its life, not a sharp line left on it. Plus it's well overpriced IMHO.

The green 300M is a much better choice.

The 300 makes the dated GMT look hugely overpriced. Don't forget, back then the movements were ETAs too rather than the lovely Omega one in the 300.

That GMT is overpriced. He must have bought that a while a go when the tide was higher.

I would get the Green SMP from these choices.

If you like the PO style there are smaller versions available than that 45.5 mm chrono wopper.

I really like their 42mm ceramic bezel non-chrono version, but the new SMP is very nice too and presumably under warranty.

As noted above the GMT Anniversary is about £2k too expensive.

Yeah, the GMT is out, it does seem almost double any others, even accounting for condition and the recent service, and the fact I do like it, think will go for the 300 as its more in the ball park price wise plus I like how it looks, I like the green and its the right size.

Will try it tomorrow, going over lunchtime so will report back.

Just looked at other photos, you make a very good point, it really is.

One off Chronext,

The one I was looking at,
