Rewind all the way to the summer of 2011, and I buy a lovely Seamaster Aqua Terra from Mr Dominic Hackett...

I enjoy the watch as my daily, but I get the Rolex bug and in 2016 I stupidly use the Omega as a p/x back to Mr Hackett for a Batman. He puts it up for sale, and unsurprisingly it immediately sells before I've even got my Batman home. I immediately regret getting rid, and always said I'd buy it back if it ever came up for sale again. Here's a picture I took of it the last day I wore it on the way to Dom's...

Fast forward to the May 2023, and I spot it on his Instagram, but by the time I've contacted Dom, it's already sold again. frown

Fast forward once again, to November of this year, and I'm commissioning Mr Hackett to make me an engagement ring so I can propose to my other half on Christmas day. I pick up the ring a couple of weeks ago (the ring, btw, was/is utter perfection!), and as I leave his office I say to Dom once again that if he sees the Omega, he must let me know!

Christmas Day comes, I propose, and she says yes! Discussions are had about the ring, and about how great Dom was/is. We go round my other half's parents for lunch and several bottles of champagne are had. After a wonderful lunch, my other half (now fiancé) asks if I'd like a surprise present.... she said that she was saving it for my 50th, but I could have it now as an engagement present.

Without knowing what's going on, I agree, she disappears and reappears holding a box, I open it and see none other than my Omega! I was speechless, and I had to ask several times if it was the same watch!

It turns out that it was my fiancé that bought it from Dom back in May 2023, and it's been stashed at her parents house ever since, awaiting my 50th in 2027!

So i've been reunited with the watch, it's now sat back in the exact same winder it once lived all those years ago, and it's been a very good Christmas! biggrin

A Christmas miracle! And congratulations on your engagement. A lady of foresight and style obviously.
Great story.

Top marks to the future Mrs kmpowell for purchasing the watch all that time ago, with the forethought of presenting it to you on your 50th. That makes it a special present. I'd view it as not simply having your old watch back but instead your fiancé bought you a very special watch with a great deal of thought. That thought by her is the real present.

Credit to Dom also as (assuming he already knew you wanted to buy your old watch back) he risked you being frustrated with him for selling the watch to someone else whilst knowing you wanted to buy it back. If that makes sense?

What a fantastic story! You won't be selling that one again hehe

I stupidly did the same with my 126660 James Cameron with Alex at watches of whitby on a 50th anniversary Sub. I have asked him if it ever comes back in to let me know but it's probably long gone now.

I bet your fiancé will regret this once the realisation that she'll now have to buy you 'another' gift for your 50th sinks in. hehe

Congratulations!

Wonderful that your fiancé had been so thoughtful - I guess this also means you’ll be needing a new watch to mark your 50th!
