Evening all,

On the backend of reading the custom seiko thread i went down a rabbit hole of diy kit watches, particularly Casio AE1200s

I’m just curious as to if anyone has had a custom one made/built one themselves and who is known to be reputable for either whole builds or parts kits,

I was going to buy one (standard AE) but thought why not add some personality to an already characterful watch

Ive not done an ae1200 but have done my own solar 2100.

From my limited experience, stay away from cheap Chinese as it didnt fit my watch. Its been a year since I looked but the Americans did some decent quality kits.

If you do it yourself, pending on if you need to pop the glass out (a press is around 10 on amazon),id get a spare gasket encase you twist the original (like i did).

Watch some youtube vids but its relatively straight forward.

Nice one thanks, i have saw some american sites doing parts but obviously anyone can bulk buy and resell the cheap tat,

Ive seen some metal cases with either mineral glass or sapphire as the original is case appears to be resin so would want a decent quality one,

I’ll have to have a look on youtube especially for what parts and tools i will have to invest in

I modded mine a fortnight ago, I found the bracelet & clasp horrible on the standard watch plus the crystal had started to scratch up a little after only a couple weeks.

I bought mine from here-

I went for the fully polished stainless version, really nice quality. Sapphire crystal, milled clasp and micro adjustment. Pushers are much nicer to use and now being fully stainless it’s got a nice weight to it. It’s pretty straightforward to swap everything over and the kit comes with everything (except a spring bar removal tool) but I had one here. Just be careful fitting the module back in as mine bent slightly but after 5 mins reshaping it I got it sorted.
