Was in the jewellers (or AD if I must) yesterday looking at new watches. We have had a couple of high value watches from them and naturally whilst speaking with the salesperson there was chat about other watches we have. All normal stuff, except whilst I was drooling over the shiny new watches trying them on I noticed the salesperson taking a picture of their laptop screen on their mobile phone and then sticking their phone back in their pocket.

I didn't actually give it much thought if any till last night. I now keep wondering what valid reason would someone be taking a pic of someone's details off a laptop screen?

I am going to call them today to follow up on it so there hopefully will be an innocent explanation

Not to fan the flames, but like you I’d be very suspicious and not like that at all.

Follow up phone call made and I mentioned the picture taking of my details. Salesperson said it was just so they could email me later and that the pic was then wiped. A bog standard copy and paste email was sent to me after the visit which funnily enough didn't even have my name contained in the message.

So that confirms they did take a pic of my details rather than something unrelated. Not a whole lot more I can do now other than at least I've made them aware I know they took the picture. I could email the store manager and voice my concern but not sure I'm over analysing.

Suppose we'll find out soon enough if we get an attempted break-in!

Email the store manager.

Sorry, but that'd worry me.

Yeah, might do that. It just doesn't add up. Their system would be set up to follow up on customer enquiries/drop ins. It's not very "AD" taking pics of customer details onto a mobile.

One thing, my "relationship with the AD" will be effectively wiped out after my email hahaha. Maybe I should remove my FS post for my submariner..may not be getting my new watch after all

My AD has all of my details they need on their Database - In fact I (like you) will have an 'account'

I can't think of a reason for a photo tbh
