Evening,

Due to unfortunate circumstances, I've inherited my father-in-laws prized watch, an Omega Seamaster Professional 007

Other than my Garmin (which I only wear for a run or ride then it comes straight off), I've not owned a watch since my digital Casio in 1989 and have no idea how to look after it. Do they need serviced, if so how often? How do I clean it? Do you get a "screen protector"?

For insurance purposes, would £4500 be about right? They paid £1500 12-15 years ago. We have the orginal certificate and watch somewhere. Not that I would consider selling it, so almost pointless.

Must admit, it does feel nice to wear and will certainly be worn on special occasions.

I’m sorry for your loss.
£4500 for insurance purposes is pretty much spot on.
Servicing is needed if you find it is not keeping accurate time and that is important to you. Omega service costs more but independent watchmakers can service this movement easily. For occasional use every 7-10 years is probably plenty . No one uses screen protectors the crystal is very strong in any case. My only other advice is to wear it and enjoy it as much as possible.

They don't really need any servicing until they stop - the cost of a service Vs the cost of a repair is almost the same as the process is identical. The co-axial movement requires less maintenance, so it should go on and on - they're normally within +2 seconds accuracy a day. Generally always fast rather than slow.

As above, there are no screen protectors.

Clean it in warm water with a soft toothbrush - you won't do it any harm.
