Any suggestions other than the usual Google for it on where to look if I were interested in a fairly basic Panerai?

Do you mean on-line retailers?

You could try Blitz Watches

Try watches.co.uk

Secondhand stuff. Sells huge amounts of stuff, very reputable.

If you're after a new one, I've not seen anyone offer huge discounts. Probably best bet is just to spend some time in the nearest stockist and see what they can offer.

Sounds about right, why discount if people want them and you can't get enough to sell I guess?

Plus I'd likely be looking at a bottom of the range one. although I genuinely do like the no frills look it's not a case of "anything to get the brand on my wrist".

Does anyone happen to have a UK retail price list? I've not managed to find one.

Youre going to struggle at the moment. I have the same desire, and hardly anyone has any in stock. Keep an eye on blowers though

watches.co.uk has 17 used panerai in stock right now. They tend to get at least two or three extra every week.

They are based in Chiswick and are very good. I bought my brother an Omega there and they are very helpful.

Other option is buy in the US. Dollar is weak and prices are cheap. I got a watch in Miami from a main dealer and saved thousands. They are prepared to discount unlike our dealers.

check out watches of switzeland site, find the manfufactuers link, then request a brochure and a price list on line, they are very good, you will recieve one. Depending on the model you want i reckon you will locate stock, a discount, i reckon a slight reduction is possible.

Good Luck.

Fantastic watches.

Thanks I've email Watches of Switzerland and will email watches.co.uk as well.

As someone suggested Blowers also have a couple that look like candidates.

I'd feel quite wary of buying something of that value from the US simply because of the number of fakes, I've no fear over Internet Shopping but with something of that value I'd sooner be able to drive there at a push and play holy hell.

One of my local watch dealers in Nottingham always has a few in stock, and I always drool over them when ever I'm near, from memory the 'basic' is about £3.2k.
Can't remember the name of the place but if you know Nottingham it's the one near Flannels.

Thanks, I used to live at Nottingham and don't live that far away. I don't know "Flannels" but know my way around the Town Centre so I'll have a look on the Panerai site for an official dealer.

Pain in the ass though if there's no central stock inventory at Panerai UK!

One piece of possible good news is I have a Rolex that I purchased s/h some years back, and they now appear to sell for more than I paid for mine, so a p/x may be an option as I never wear the damned thing.

It's a Steel Datejust 16220 from (off memory) around 1998/9 and was serviced three or four years back by Rolex if any P/H'ers care to hazard a guess at value.

Cheers! Looks like mine should be worth more than I paid which is possibly useful, though it also suggests Panerai are worth less than most dealers are selling them for.

They may just have a better margin to work with than most dealers?? Hope your purchase goes well

It's next to Waterstones, and directly opposite the Body Shop, found the link.......

Well they tend to retail at a bit over £1k so I'd expect a little less than that as a Part/Ex, but that is a total guess.

£800 perhaps? I was offered £1200 p/x on a mid 90's bi-metal oysterdate a few months ago.

I know watches.co.uk do part ex.

The chap who owns the place told me that two thirds of his business is repeat part ex for people who just fancy a change

The US stuff is so cheap that you could buy a cheap flight to new york or miami buy cheap from a main dealer and still save some serious cash.

You can then take the risk of getting it through customs without paying duty.

also check out art of time in miami (they have a website) They do second hand stuff very cheap. I visited their shop whilst I was buying an IWC recently. They tell me they ship lots of stuff to the UK.

How are they for stock generally over on the Channel Islands? Are you likely to be able to pick up a SS Daytona for example?
