Go online!

if you like big watches, a Seiko "Sumo" diver (from the Asian market Prospex line) are some of the best around. Top-notch automatic movement and build quality. Check Ebay, or google Seiya-Japan or Higuchi Inc for imports.

I dont think you could get a MarineMaster (the top Seiko diver) for that much...even with the dollar exchange rate, but thats another top watch (has the handmade Grand Seiko movement).

edit: yeah the marinemasters are about a grand.

I just bought a Citizen Promaster Eco-Drive Pilot Radio Controlled Titanium (AS2031-06E) from neWatch.com -beautifully made light but chunky watch. neWatch are in Spain, but I was very impressed by their service and prices, plus they have a HUGE range.

Best advice for Goldsmith's, and other retailers - ask for discount! Play shops off against each other. May increase your budget by 10% - 15%.....for the sake of asking!
..Or look at www.glooks.com they were great for me, but budget for import duty - still much cheaper than UK though.

How about second hand? Some nice Heuers and Omegas around in your budget.
