Rolex Milgauss
Discussion
I am very much a beginner in the world of watches, though learning fast I need some advice.
First acquisition recently was a really nice 1945 bubbleback perpetual chronometer. It’s lovely and not at all ‘in your face’.
I really like the new milgauss with the green glass and get the impression one is unlikely to come across many people wearing one and again it is not perhaps as loud as a Daytona or Sub even though I wouldn’t mind them either. Love the new GMT2 but it sticks out a mile and I don’t want to attract the wrong type of attention on the train from dodgy types (get enough of that in the car).
When I dropped in on local Mappin & Webb the chap was knowledgeable and had a brochure for the milgauss but hadn’t even seen one in the metal. Tried to flog me a gold GMT2 but I am not a Russian oligarch so ‘nyet’ mate!
I’d like to see a milgauss before committing but get the idea this isn’t going to happen anytime soon.
Questions
1. What kind of order time can I expect?
2. If I go for it anyway and decide I don’t like it after a bit, am I likely to get most of my money out of it ?
Help appreciated ! Cheers

Dont't really fancy paying a hefty premium for the green one..would rather be on a waiting list and pay RRP even if it takes some time....anyone ordered a green Milgauss?
You've got no chance mate - they're sold out until about 3012!Sorry!!

tried one on the other day in a shop in Edinburgh. Not my cup of tea but they're definitely around. This wasn't a customers one waiting collection.
strike that! was the standard version not the green glass.

The market for huge-premium tool-watch Rolexes has simply *got* to be taking a dive at the moment - the markets have crashed and there's a lot of media speculation (which doesn't help one jot) that they are going to burn. There's hyperbolic talk of the entire Western-model financial system, and capitalism itself, being utterly destroyed by the recent events.
Certainly governments nationalising banks will result in much smaller wages for bank workers, and who would bother putting up with the stress of the City for public-sector wages? Not I, for sure - I'll be out of there like a rocket.
So with all this FUD floating around, there will be more than a few panicky traders dumping assets - including watches - and if you've got cash and little debt then it may be a good time to buy. Assuming Western civilisation and capitalism as we know it doesn't descend into anarchy (hell, even Bloomberg are posting scary news items and they aren't usually on the Daily-Mail side of 'journalism') then the watches will return to their former values as the markets regain confidence.
There's a real prospect of all these watches sold on pure greed (and I include the Daytona and Milgauss in there, because there's nothing that special about the watches other than the perception that they're worth more than they are) being sold by owners at firesale prices just to cash in before things get worse. I'd imagine the watch traders are pitching in big time here if they're brave!!! If I was offered a GV Milgauss below list and I had the cash (plus savings to last me the next two years with no work) then I'd probably buy it - I reckon the markets will come back and appetite for these watches will return, all it takes is confidence in the markets - i.e. financial workers feeling like there's money to be made - to return.
