How often will you wear it? What with? What is your normal style? Will your budget stretch to both?

For me that style of watch suits leather better, which did you think 'yes thats it' first?

James, go for the steel bracelet without a doubt. TAG charge over £200 for a replacement strap, because of the design of the folding clasp only a TAG strap will fit. If you wear the watch regularly you'll do well to get 12 months out of it.
I'd go for the bracelet and buy a Hirsch Alligator strap at about £90 to swap with.

Just my 2cents.

Well you can't argue with a man who knows! Do most leather straps wear in about 12 months Dominic?

Excessive wear and, frankly, odours was my concern with the leather. I was tempted to buy both straps so I can change them over from time to time - however the leather one is $375 so not entirely keen on that... however the £90 option sounds interesting. Thanks for the advice smile

ETA - Dominic, I am intending to buy from the US simply due to the price - unless you can give me a good price as UK-sourced would be nice, and from a PH-er better still.

+1, and I'd also follow his advice on the strap. Not only do Tag charge a fortune for a replacement leather, they'll charge you even more if you wanted to buy the metal strap at a later date. Buy the metal strap and then play around with leather straps until you get the right look. I'd also try a black punched leather strap - it'll look good on the Carrera as it is a homage to a 60s design.

All you'd need then is black leather driving gloves and the polished wooden rim steering wheeel of a Ferrari 250 short wheel base...

Dominic

Would the same advice apply to an Omega DeVille? My black strap is worn and has an odour.

In all honesty it would need to be near to the £800 mark - perhaps a touch more.

Well, I have it here in my sweaty little paw and bloody lovely it is too.

What an interesting deal between two people brought together by the power of PH. For a moment last night I did think "have I just transferred a load of money into the bank account of someone I've had a 3 minute phone conversation with?" and "would someone **really** send an expensive watch to a random bloke in Bristol on the promise that the bill would be paid?". But here we are, what a nice, smooth, easy transaction. A+++++ as they say on eBay.

Thank you Dom, and to anyone else looking to aquire a nice timepiece, I would suggest this is the man to get one from beer
