and dodgier than a dodgy thing from dodgeville, I'd be quite happy to proven wrong but an extremely grainy scan of a photo.... would you part with 1300 notes without seeing it for that? okgo said:
If the watch is marked 16233 is a 100% fake.Chaps, is this ad so dodgy that it is worthy of us pulling? We've made some changes to the classified ads of late and you'll notice that we've created a dedicated watch section. As I'm sure you'll be spending a bit of time in there, I would encourage you to report anything which looks like a scam; we have people who will act quickly to pull any dodgy ads.
Thanks,
Stuart

I think this is so dodgy, that if the seller protests about it being pulled, he needs to prove it is real. Thanks,
Stuart
It may be he bought it as genuine and is needing to sell it on as he has found out.
Let's turn this into a "How to spot a fake" topic.
Here's the watch in question:

Here's a real SS Submariner (Shamelessly swiped pic from eBay)

Subs are probably the most fakes Rolex right now and there are some fakes that I have seen which are VERY tough to spot, unless you have a very trained eye and a loupe, you may find it impossible to tell unless you crack the case open.
Look at the size of the crown above the "ROLEX" script, see how on the Genuine one it is slightly wider?
Notice what cyberface said about the crown guard, or the lugs around the crown.. see the shape differences?
Notice the difference in the date magnification? A Genuine Rolex magnifies the date 2.5 times.
Notice the "Pearl" at the top of the bezel, see how it's not centered in the "V"?
See how the writing on the bezel does not perfectly line up?
A Genuine Rolex is a very high quality item that generally won't have any visible flaws and won't have any signs of imprecise workmanship anywhere on it.
I would be very careful if I were buying an SS sub, there's enough reputable sellers in the UK to buy one from at a reasonable price.
FWIW, that looks like a $25-50 copy. You can buy fakes for $2-300 that are dramatically better than that, they will fool most people on here.

It's definately wrong. A steel Sub date (from R series '89 onwards) carries the model denomination 16610. The model reference '16233' refers to a gentlemans 36mm steel and yellow metal datejust, a completely different watch.
Hey, if I'm wrong I'll buy it as it's £1000 behind its' market value.
Hope this helps,
Dominic.
