We'll talk about this in the office on Monday. Interesting debate though; I wouldn't ever by a "replica" watch but there is a market for them. As long as they are described as such (and not trying to be real like that moody sub) then surely there is a place for them?

i agree (even though i reported the seadweller - before i read that he'd described it as a replica with an ETA movement redface )

i think as long as they're described as replicas etc then ok.

i just had a look at the seadweller and, if those pictures are of the watch for sale, then it seems a *very* good replica. then i read the writeup and it's got a sweeping movement too.

very impressive

and i'm not getting into the whole debate about fake watches. i just think that's a lot of watch for £99

and no, i'm not the seller and i wouldn't buy it as a)i'm fortunate enough to have a real one and b)i don't like the idea of wearing something that proports to be something it's not

but - i can see how someone would be tempted for £99 when the real ones are £3000.

Didnt know there was a sales section for watches here!

At least the thread was good for something.

On topic, I don't have a problem with this. Makes everything a lot more transparent.

Personally, I'd rather buy a £50 quid "real" watch than a £50 quid fake. But thats just mehehe
They are still a £50 watch...... either way... if it looks good, tells the time and is reliable does it matter?

To those who object to the ownership of fakes, a question.
Are ALL of the pictures on the walls of your homes original works of art ? No prints ?
Just a quick Q to widen the debate ........

A print allows up-close, everyday enjoyment of an image which one would otherwise only be able to observe in a gallery or a book.....and the replica watch gives pleasure in a similar tangible way, though only a fool would try to pass it off as the real deal as to be caught out by ones peers would equal serious social suicide.....

Costume jewelry for the boys...?

The bottom line is that they are theft and breach of copyright and intellectual property rights.

Recent cases of this same thing included eBay in france and Germany, whereby I think it was Omega and Rolex successfully sued eBay for $60m, and eBay were told to proactively stop this practice moving forward.

Bingo! I think that you will find that counterfeit items are generally illegal to sell or purchase, or often possess. If PH willingly permits the sale of such items they could be a target for at least civil, if not criminal action.

reality: The BiB won't come after you if you let people sell the odd fake on here, but Rolex would gladly haul Haymarket's ass right into court.

They are clearly marked as "replica", so no-one is going to fooled. Don't agree with them though, and if I was running PH, I would be concerned that someone was selling fake goods on my site.

I don't think you have to mark them as replica! Even if you owned the original one and fell on hard times, you would be able to get more than that selling them to the likes of www.watches.co.uk

when the owners of a site have banners for a replica watch site flashing away then you can all make your own minds up...

not with an ETA movement in they're not,and if that's the case then that would include many of the big brands products...

I'm neither here nor there on the subject. They are described as replica so thats a start. But Mr Greedy Banker has done an excellent job in 're-advertising' these, maybe they are his scratchchinlaugh

Replicas are still considered copyright theft, and are therefore illegal to sell.

People buy prints for their homes because they like the original, if asked nobody would say "Yeah mate it's a Monet".

People buy fake watches because they want people to think they have the real thing.

If they didn't and it's simply for the look then why buy a fake Rolex Sub for £50 when you can buy a real Avia Sub for £30 at Elizabeth Duke?

People buy prints because the artist, or copyright owner, has allowed it to be copied, and earns royalties on those sales (typically licensing deals).

This is 100% legal.

Interesting article here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/moslive/article-1019598...

Good to know that PayPal UK close accounts where it has been used to accept payment on fake/replica watches.

Hahaha - anyone buying a real Jacob & Co watch must be a tt, let alone trying to pass off a fake.

Me?

What's it got to do with me? Nothing. I wouldn't sell them.
