Incredible but true:

Bamford & Sons black Rolex Daytona sold for an astounding 48,000 at the October 16 Antiquorum auction in NY. FFS!

Let me get this right, someone took a regular Daytona and got it coated or this something that actually came PVD coated from Rolex ?

10/10 Digger. Bamford and Sons buy a regular steel Daytona call it £7k at market prices. The watch case/bezel/bracelet is stripped down and 'PVD' coated, rebuilt and sold for a lot more.
I think (and could be way out) that Bamfords sell these for c£12k. Why someone wants to give 2.5 times that I don't know.

Rolex do not manufacture the watch with the PVD coating, and as it has been customised they won't touch it in the future....

I thought the guys who were PVD coating them were doing so after a couple of Rolex PVD coated test watches turned up a few years ago - ie genuine Rolex prototypes?

Can't remember where I heard that though.

Not heard that one Max, sounds like a bit of a tale. Rolex R & D is done under the tightest security.
I'd be very surprised....

Do you get a free re-coat for your £48k when the PVD starts to come off and look like a cheap fake?!

Sorry, but I fail to see the appeal of these things at all. The sort of nonsense that a recession should, hopefully, see the end of...
