Rolex Daytona - Order Time
Discussion
I've been on the list for 3 years with no joy. I was also one of the first on the list for a green glass Milgauss but havent heard yet.
To be honest I think they lists are generally b
ks as the store managers will get hold of them first and sell them to dealers or give them to their best customers. The folks actually on the list are usually about 3rd in line (if you are first on the list). Just IMO of course.

RRP is about £5.8k isn't it?Hi all
Some may remember my quandry a few weeks ago , on what to buy, anyway had a nice complication ,last friday had a call from a jeweller , who asked the question i thought i would not hear for years , your daytona has come in do you want it !
Whats the relevence to this thread you may ask , well i only put my name down end of last year and i'm not a previous customer of their's. Apparantly the three peoply above me dropped out , with all the current doom and gloom i think there are lots of people dropping of the list.
A further twist is i pulled my name off the deep sea list to get my deposit back so could afford the daytona , when i turned up there to see them thy told me my deep sea would have been in this week ! i know there were 4 people on that list above me there as well so they must have dropped out as well .
Regarding price they are quoteing me £5340 for the daytona , i even rang back to double check as i have seen 5700 figure banded about .

I put my name down earlier this year and two months later had the phone call to say it was in, i wasnt ready with the funds, as i have estimated 2 years so i had to say not yet, i am still on the list.
The was a white face SS daytona, they were going to change to face to black for me.

I dont see what all the fuss is about the ss daytona-it seems a lot of people enjoy owning it because they are not easy to get rather than because they like the actual watch.
Before anyone flames me I do like Rolex watches and have owned a few over the years.I worked my way up to a solid gold full size yachtmaster which I bought 10 years ago and still own,and that-to me,is my ultimate Rolex.
I know a few people who are very good customers of Rolex AD's(usually not from buying Rolex's!),who have never been on the list for a Daytona but have been offered them at list with no wait.

I was given £2000 by my grandfather on my 21st Birthday and he was more than happy for me to spend it all on the watch of my dreams!
Being a diver and having great admiration for the inventor of the "scuba" and the original co-designer of the rolex submariner, Jacque Cousteau it had to be one of them!! (not sure how true that fact is!)
I waited 18 months for the sub date, and when I collected it, the dealer agreed to put me on their Daytona SS list.
I never really thought much about it, (other than checking my details when the sub was in for a service) until 7 years later nearly to the day when they called to ask if I still wanted a black faced Daytona!
I collected it about 14 minutes later
and have loved it ever since, althought it mostly lives in the safe
£3995 very well spent!
The dealer was pretty suprised the other day when I popped in to look at a Navitimer and was wearing the Daytona. He said that 90% of his "one off" customers, just sell them on for a profit.
I seriously hope that I never need to sell it, but there is definatly a nice comfort in knowing that it should always be worth more than it cost me

Interesting stuff!
I was quoted 7 years last year, when I picked up my Sub... So i left it!
I am still looking for a White face Daytona, new model, for my best mate (paid for by his missus) for their wedding - It seems like a few could be coming on the market over the next few weeks!
Although, i am off to see a fellow PHers soon, which I am looking forward to.

My advice to any serious buyer would always be to ring around Rolex dealers outside the south east - i did this about 6 years ago and picked up a SS Submariner date within about 3 months when i was given all the ususal guff about 2 year waiting lists etc. I bought mine from Whittles in Preston who seemed to have a reasonable supply and, being based in a poverty stricken northern mill town, not a vast number of customers! i have no doubt this will have spread across the country by now.....
