Rolex most resistent to depreciation - help please
Discussion
Hi,
I recently had to sell my 16610LV due to a customer going bust... I needed to pay the wages and it was the only thing I could convert to cash quickly without losing anything.
It broke my heart but I had to do it.
Anyway, the time has come to replace it... but what with?
I have a deepsea on order, but I haven't had one on my wrist yet, and I'd rather have a sub for everyday wear.
I've been offered a newish Bi-colour GMT with ceramic, and various bi-metal daytonas, but I'm not sure how easy they'd be to turn in to cash if required.
My theory has always been that the sub's are real easy to turn in to cash at a moments notice- and, being in business, this is important to me.
Do I buy another LV, or maybe a 16613 - or just a plain 16610? What would you suggest?
Thanks,
Simon

Vintage 5512 or 5513 subs would be ok, if bought sensibly.
As for new, I would think a Milgauss would keep its money (if bought at list) and the subs wouldn't be too bad. If you could find one a Sea Dweller (old kind) would probably be a good bet.
Deep Sea doesn't seem to be fetching much of a premium now, so I'd suggest that it will soon be selling for below list.
I'd stay away from Bi-Metal, but any SS sportswatch should be ok, how 'ok' is the question
The only issue is how the economy affects these things, no doubt many Rolexes which are fetching a premium were being bought on tick.

So what would be a good purchase price for a brand new 16600 Sea Dweller?
The list is £3690 (same as the 16610LV), I think the last batch will be delivered before Xmas and that's it....Edited by Skyman on Saturday 22 November 13:02

I Paid £3280 a month or so ago, before the price increase. I phoned up ADs up and down the country, a few did have one in stock..mainly outside London. You may still be able to find one if you phone around. I seem to recall an AD in Warwick had one (Z serial)..but can't remember the name of the dealer.Edited by Skyman on Saturday 22 November 13:02
I have to admit that I was really tempted to buy a 16613 bi-metal / blue face, but I was concerned that the polished links would scratch too easily; I wear the watch every day in the factory, and don't take it off when I really ought to...
I'm also of the belief that stainless Rolex are much more easily saleable... and the 'flash' thing of a bi isn't for me- not for daily wear, anyway.
I paid £2675 for the 16600 Sea-dweller I bought; the docs are dated November 2007, and I'm rather pleased with it (and the price!)
Thanks for the help and advice- It's appreciated

Now I'm no expert, but based on the research I did before getting mine, I'd say you got a steal for that price, and would imagine you could easily re-sell if for >£3k.Edited by RRH on Sunday 23 November 22:27
Nice one!
On one US Rolex forum they are talking about 50cents to the dollar paid on some Rolex's being about all you'll get back at the moment if you sell back to a dealer, when was the last time you saw so many Subs both date, none date and LV's, Daytona's as well in AD's windows, at one time you would be lucky to see any in the windows, I've read of people even getting discounts on some of the Stainless stuff including LV's. Stories all over various Rolex forums of dealers calling people up trying to flog watches that previously would would have went straight to customers. And that is just Rolex.

BTW I know a lot of people don't like the two tone's but
