I am looking for a omega speedmaster 50th anniversary

one of these

http://www.goldsmiths.co.uk/product.asp?cid=1&...

anyone have a good idea on the value of a 1yr old one with box and papers?

What would I get offered if I changed my mind and handed it in at a jewellery shop?

Thanks
dom

Not sure I understand your questions. I find it a bit strange to reconcile one with the other.

The main reason i'm trying to reconcile is to see what I would lose if I didnt get on with it...

A worst case scenario shall we say... (I know the worst case scenario is it goes to zero)

To put it in a finance perspective I am trying to gauge what my "value at risk" is.

If that makes sense to anyone else but me...

Ah, OK.

I am the sort of person who endeavours to become sure of the satisfaction in the purchase before it is made, with a view to eliminating the change of mind risk.

Good luck.

Others will advise re prices I am sure.

Thanks Skyman,

I know what you mean.. its just that im not sure until ive worn it for a couple of months as to whether its for me or not...

I am reasonably sure, just never had a manual wind watch before...

Will I get on with it?!?!?

They seem to command about USD2200-2400 on Timezone, probably a bit more here. Thats for a private sale.

I'd be surprised if you got as much as 50% of new retail selling to the trade.

You'll get on with it just fine, and will quickly get into a routine of winding it at the same time each day. I tend to wind mine first thing in the morning, usually sat on the bog (too much information!).

I'm not sure what rrp is on those but I'd be looking for some kind of reasonable discount at the moment. I tried one on in Frankfurt a few months back and they were offering 15% off list without too much prompting.

As for resale, if you decide you don't want it after a week then 70-80% may be reasonable. If it starts to show real signs of wear then 40-50% is a more likely return.
As far as I'm aware there are few really limited edition Omega's these days so I wouldn't hold out to much hope that it will somehow magically retain it's value.
I have to admit the 50th Anniv model is a very nice looking speedy though.

Does anyone, anymore, buy a watch just because they like it?

Is it all about re-sale value, 'box and papers'?

Where, in the hierarchy, does my 'Twatomatic' stand? just curious...

Shuvi your right,

It should be just about whether you like it or not.

But even if you liked a watch alot, and you saw one for sale for £2000, you buy it, go home, look on the net only to find another shop where they are for sale in the same condition for £1300....

Wouldnt you feel riped off?

'dom: I understand your point.

2 days ago[or thereabout], there was another thread asking where such and such a watch was in the hierarcy - of...? That person is buying the watch because they like it? I don't think so.

If it's about status, you can't afford it. Buy a Seiko; they really do make 'The best watch in the world'.

It just means that you didn't do your research and enough leg work to find the 1300GBP one first, its called, "having to swallowing". Accept what you get just don't whinge and panic when you find one cheaper, accept it for what it is.

if it was about status I would buy a rolex ;-)

tbh i am just trying to justify spending more on what is just a slightly different face. rather than just getting a standard speedmaster.

but once more I am beggining to be convinced, maybe I should just find a new one (at a good price :-) ) and go from there...

They made about 5000 of those 50th Anniversary speedies, so it won't hold its value any better than any other, IMO.

If i was looking to buy a new speedmaster now I'd be holding on for a few months and seeing what Omega bring out to mark the 40th Anniversary of the moon landing.

But i just answered your input, by saying that you've not done the correct homework if you feel you need to get shot of it quick because you've seen a cheaper one in the shop next door. To say that is being ripped off is also wrong, you've not been ripped off at all, nobody has hood-winked you into buying something dearer than you can buy cheaper elsewhere.

I can't agree with this, you can only do so much research by looking at pictures and trying one in an AD (if you can find one). That said, you could have it for a few months and then decide it's not for you.
I do agree with your point about feeling 'ripped off', the seller can ask what they like it's your decision whether you want to pay £x for it or not.
